ITV News: March 2022 onwards

BBC News will be relaunching quite soon I believe, when the national bulletins along with the news channel will be moving into the newly refurbished Studio B at BBC New Broadcasting House. Someone said a few weeks ago that an April relaunch is planned.

Is that platform underneath the big screen to the left of Mary real or computer generated?

Is that a new wipe graphic? I like it.

A similar one was used on the News at Ten mini-previews (if they're still a thing, rarely watch the 9pm programme on ITV).

I imagine it'd give away that it's the same studio space if they did an interview.

I notice they're using the big screen a lot more to throw to live reporters (I think Mary just then thought she was on the older 'down the line' style, rather than the reporter being on the screen)

Is the graphic on the screen with a picture of Ed Sheeran new or has that been used before?

Not 100% sure, but I'd guess it's computer generated as literally everything else in that studio is, except the desk

That's been used for years - they just don't use it very often.

I understand the notion of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" but nearly a decade is quite a long time for there to be practically no changes whatsoever. Almost unprecedented really. I can only really think of the current BBC News branding (which seems to be due a refresh soon by all accounts) and a couple of bulletins from the 1980s that kept their branding for a long time (BBC's Six 1984-1993 and ITN's News at 5.45 1976-1988). They needn't have gone for anything radical, but a fresh take on the look and sound of the bulletin wouldn't have gone amiss, especially as they seem to have heavily promoted the changes today.

I very much get the sense that the head honchos want today to be a soft launch. Listening to what Mary Nightingale said today on This Morning backs that inference up, I think. I suspect that there will be a new look, but not until the autumn at least. I do agree with you, though - a rebrand is well due.
That is exactly what they did with News at Ten - switched to Tom hosting and changed it editorially but it was 2-3 months before the graphics and music were changed.

Alex is in the studio now with some new weather wall graphics.

The throw to the national weather is the same as in the regional bulletins, but he's in the studio rather than it being pre-recorded in the normal style. He needs to move to the left a bit though, he's covering up southern Ireland.

Not too keen on the weather graphics being on an angle, would prefer it being front-on.

STV Weather sting used before sponsor here on STV. Note: The Heinz sponsor here refers to it as the "STV National Weather".
