They needn't have gone for anything radical, but a fresh take on the look and sound of the bulletin wouldn't have gone amiss, especially as they seem to have heavily promoted the changes today.

I very much get the sense that the head honchos want today to be a soft launch. Listening to what Mary Nightingale said today on This Morning backs that inference up, I think. I suspect that there will be a new look, but not until the autumn at least. I do agree with you, though - a rebrand is well due.
