That's exactly how I see the BBC. A mandated premium subscription service. And for that I expect a premium product. For starters - no 5.1 support on iPlayer.
Just an example of the BBC peeing money up the wall, and sorry to go back to Eurovision, but they'd already paid for excellent breakfiller content from the EBU and Dutch Television whilst the votes were being verified.
What do the BBC do? Pre-empt it for a Line of Duty send-up that would fail a GCSE Drama exam. They also hired a complete random to offer his opinions instead of showing the World Feed - the guy didn't have a clue. Yet OGAE UK has tens of genuine fans with TV and Radio presentation experience (I'm generally available Andrew Cartmell if you're reading this) who would have happily gone over to IMG for their BFH.
Then there's the misreporting of news stories, such as the "million" at a "stop Brexit" event, debunked down to a few undred thousand by crowd experts. Or saying there's "three of four hundred" outside Tommy Robinson's court hearing when his own FB live clearly shows it's at least treble that figure.
I'm not condoning any of these stories, what I'm saying is by trying to play them down, you ultimately create outlets like GB News.
Ask yourself the question why the setting-up of GB News has been considered necessary by those who have done so?
Whilst they've proved you most certainly can't do this stuff on Two Bob, my goodness they've proved that alright, it does point to a wider problem of their target audience being ignored by the Corporation.
