Radio On Television
#84
There are a few times when radio has featured on TV - the Arena Radio Night had a live reading of the Shipping Forecast, Nationwide was in the London Control Room when the MW / LW changes happened, and also briefly was in the various continuity suites for the 4 networks too.
Why there is so little of it done I suspect is that radio is often an intimate experience whereas TV is demanding and requires a reasonable number of people.
A late-night presenter in a darkened studio huddled over a mic would lose that style with the lights turned up and bright screens around them. TV also moves in and assumes it is in control. The radio programme can suffer as a result, sometimes it is us technical folks who have to remind production that we are just observers and cannot disrupt their output.

There is also an issue of there are things that you don't want the public to see. When webcasting was coming in, it was suggested that a camera could be fitted in the Control Room. The idea of having us all being constantly observed was one major issue, and the other was if something could be seen that affected security. It never happened.
One of our customers recently did a behind the scenes of remote production and managed to capture a shot of his screen listing information that gave away streaming details for a feed of what is a paid for channel. That caused some disruption and embarrassment.
