I seem to recall a show on VH1 back in the early 00s that was supposed to be a bit like a radio show but on the television. For the life of me I can't remember what it was called but I know it was on in the afternoons and I'm pretty sure it was presented by OJ Borg and Sarah Champion.

Nowadays most music TV channels in Italy work like that.
They're a rebroadcast of radio stations with a studio, and real videos instead of tracks with a black screen, of course

I've always been fascinated by radio on TV. It's always great when I see a radio studio in-vision. It's great to see it being embraced by European stations, notably from the Netherlands & Italy. Global's studios in particular look very good, so to see them in action would be nice.

I think TV mics or mics of that size are quite fragile so would have to be replaced quite regularly. It's probably cheaper for the station to use the regular big radio mic

I don't think it's the quality as such but the accoustics of a TV studio tend not to sound great on the radio. TV Studios are generally big echoey spaces wheras you expect a radio studio to feel like quite an intimate space. Using directional condensr mics like that help to cut down on reverb, but I suspect there is an element of set dressing too.

Off topic but I found it strange that on The Wheel, Michael and the celebrities had headset mics but the contestants had lapel mics.

Yes - unbelievably they've run out of space at OGS, which is odd as there were tons of studios in the Virgin era, built for the various brand extensions before it was realised they could just run on a server in racks.

Bauer do operate Kiss, Absolute & Magic out there, alongside all their spin offs? Plus I think Scala is live all day? So quite a lot of stations. But you’d think they’d have a decent studio for GHR in there going forward.

The Bauer Building in Camden is where the print side is based but I guess with WFH likely to be more of a thing, they'll be able to use the building for the radio side.

Michael also moves around quite a bit. |
