Radio On Television
Any takers on guess for the sign age? I'm a bit obsessed with it now and also wondering if anyone knows its even there.

It's a pub now, I wonder if they'll let me just... have it? :?

if you turned up in a hi-vis jacket with a cordless drill, do you think anyone would question you? (Not that I'm condoning nicking it, of course)

I absolutely believe they wouldn't, but I'm too nice Smile
I know that somebody mentioned some Dutch efforts a while back (and shared some pictures), but I've found some video.

I don't know if this really counts, as it was an internet stream but here's something Radio 1 used to do that I found on YouTube:

I've worked on Breaking the News (looking after the audiences when we were allowed had them) quite a few times over the last few years - both the radio only version and the duel radio/TV format. With the duel format, you got two different edits of the show being produced with slight differences between the two, the radio version being transmitted on a Friday lunchtime and the TV version being transmitted Friday night.

The recording of the duel format shows ran very much like radio, running straight through the show but of course there was the odd retake to do for TV but I never it never really seemed to last any longer than the radio only recordings.
I worked on the BBC at the Edinburgh Festivals project for many years and the event had many examples of radio shows being visualised for TV and online. A few notable examples over the years that come to mind include Simon Mayo doing his Radio 2 show live on the red button, Radio 1 doing the Fun and Filth Cabaret with Scott Mills for a few years and in 2019, BBC Radio Scorland's The Afternoon Show doing a hybrid TV and radio version (much like Breaking the News) with a radio edit and TV edit both bring produced.

I'm sorry to inform you that The Jam House has now closed permanently. I wonder what will be next for this former long-time BBC Scotland site in Edinburgh? Given it's now kitted out as a bar/venue, maybe more of the same..?

I found the BBC Good Morning Scotland video from 1980 fascinating too. When I occasionally used to check in on the 5 Live live cameras in recent years, there was quite a bit of non-verbal hand signals to cue a clip, or tell a presenter to wrap up a DTL interview, or agree who would ask next questions etc. Not much of that on Radio Scotland, but obviously there were less live guests on to screw up the running order in 1980 and it looks like everyone was being on best behaviour!

Ah, that was me posting the captures previously. To watch live, look for "Kijk live" on this non-comprehensive list of sites:

Q Music | BNR Nieuwsradio | NPO Radio 1 | NPO 3 FM | Radio 538.

Finally, Radio 538 is doing a mystery voices competition, where callers have to name 4 famous voices to win. The tension build-up to them guessing on-air is rather elaborate as you can witness on this Facebook video.

Please note the presenter has quite a strong reaction to the caller getting 3 out of 4 correct. It turns out swearing in English is okay if you're broadcasting in Dutch! (Hope I'm not breaking the forum NSFW rules..!)
Does anyone remember a documentary - I think it might be an episode of Arena or something similar - which was about radio and was done in the style of a conversation between the TV broadcasting on BBC2 (if I remember rightly) and the radio broadcasting on Radio 3 or 4?

Couldn't make it work these days, of course...

This differed in that it was designed as a radio/tv simulcast from the outset, being presented from a TV studio with a proper set, and showed music videos and had interviews on the like. From my recollection it even showed the 12 noon and 1pm news bulletins (with the duty 2FM newsreader rather than one of the TV news ones) in a small presentation studio. It was later renamed 2TV with virtually the same format but presented by Dave Fanning instead. Ran from about 1988 (I don’t think it predated the change from Radio 2 to 2FM) to about 2001.

There was also a one off extended 2FM Birthday Simulcast on RTE2 in 1994, it's on youtube in full

There was "Radio 1 TV" with behind the scenes features and interviews which lasted for one series on BBC Choice in 2001. As you can see from the clip this was before Radio 1 studios had been designed for visualisation and filming.

RTÉ have now released new TV adverts that feature the new presenter line-ups for RTÉ Radio 1. They have 2 ads out so far.

The 1st ad features a builder talking to Cormac Mac Eahdera & Sarah McInerney for Drivetime.

The 2nd ad includes a mother of a baby girl talking to Claire Byrne.

The 3 presenters are all seen on the screen at first but their shots change to a radio a few seconds later.

It looks very professional when I looked at it first.

I hope there is a video online for this
