Does bad design make you less inclined to watch certain channels or shows?

I wonder if music channels are an area where the general population might make a choice between channels based on how annoying the on-screen graphics are etc?
Write that down in your copybook now

Ah, that's interesting - thank you!

Rather fittingly, given that it's a fact about a school, you learn something new every day! Big Grin

The mid to late 80's One O' Clock News intro was amazing with the clock rolling round to one and then mixing to the studio. WIsh I could recreate it.

I only recently discovered those titles were made using a physical model. I’d always assumed they were CGI.

For me, I have found over the years that I’ve certainly gravitated towards programmes and channels with great presentation and design.

I was lucky enough to grow up in the Central region, and spent much of my formative years trying to catch as many junctions featuring the ‘cake’ presentation as I could.

I definitely watched a lot more BBC News 24 in the days of the wonderful 1999 graphical countdown, just because I loved seeing it.

In more recent years, I’ve switched from BBC Breakfast, which I’d watched for many years, to GMB. One of the reasons is definitely their studio design, graphics and music which are a world apart from Breakfast’s drab presentation and pedestrian cubby-hole set. It’s just nicer on the senses first thing in the morning, even if Piers Morgan wasn’t.

Obviously being members of this forum we’re not representative of the viewing public. But I do wonder what influence, if any, design and presentation has on the viewing habits of the wider population. There must be a subconscious influence, even if people don’t realise it - I mean we all like things that look and sound nice, surely?

CGI does amazing things with on screen presentation but sometimes a physical "real world" ident is substantially better. One example was the ident used by Carlton World (a channel I never saw) which used a physical construct and CGI was added later in post-production:

Well, Its confirmed: ASD and PES are linked, because I too have both. But back to the topic at hand, I think that it has been remarked about before, but the presentation surrounding the 2002-2006 Rhythm and Movement idents. The Idents were good, but the endboards for trailers and continuity slides are atrocious. The red just looked awful, as did the thin white font.

To have something in "the real world" as an ident gives a feeling of solidity that no CGI trickery can ever give no matter how good. The current ITV idents are a great example as to a lesser extent is o*****s

@Blubatt hold your head high. Being on the spectrum is nothing to be ashamed of.

100% agreed. Even though I don't think I'm on the spectrum, my missus who has a degree in Psychology from Durham thinks I might be.

What's beyond certain though is that my beautiful 9-year-old boy is on the spectrum and I couldn't be prouder of the little guy.

Oh, come now! Whoever thought I'd end up with a tear in my eye from reading a thread about whether bad design is offputting!? Cry

Whatever your respective personal circumstances, you really are a magnificent bunch! Smile

Thank you, my friends. I am very proud of my ASD, and that there is a great community of people on here like me, even if the new BBC logo leaves us all a bit hot and bothered (some angry, others...).
