Do you ever wonder how Central managed to make so many presentation bits in its prime? (1985-1996)

Like, look at this timestamp of this YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqmae-xzp3Y
That's like, 45 minutes of idents, slides, and who knows what, and they're all different from one another to boot

Because that was their style to mix and match everything, think they ultimately ended up with something like 10k pieces of ident by the time they stopped using the cake.

I'd like to think they discovered the power of CGI and presentation and then really went to town on it and then some more. You can see from the video by the time of 1994's presentation kit they seemed to think they'd needed some form of standardisation.

I do remember that 3 minute breakdown loop appeared on air (with that music but not that montage) in 1994 on Central, as it happened during an Mr Bean episode (in lieu of some adverts they either didn't sell or couldn't air).

May I call Central the Rede Globo of the Midlands?

Was the word 'cake' eve actually used at Central, or is that a retrospective name given by Internet enthusiasts?

I've never seen a cake cut like that before

I’m guessing it’s an internet thing, cuz’ we don’t really have any proof Central themselves we’re using that nickname yet

I don’t think it was used by them. Some of the tapes I saw refer to symbol - that being said there was one that was called Cake as it was an iced version of the logo!

I think it’s a name concocted by the blue place and it’s forerunners because it’s sliced.

Sliced like no cake ever, except maybe a wedding cake

Well it started out as a moon if you remember, then it morphed into... whatever that was that followed it (a globe?) and then a "cake". But yes, thinking about it, who would slice a cake like that? I think its a retro added term. Somebody on Wiki suggests it was actually called "The Aspirin". But I'd love to know where somebody decided it was a cake.

As a slight variation, I saw someone on Twitter once who worked at Central and referred to it as the ‘Flying Disprin’.

Edit: should have guessed, it was Wesley Smith…
