Very interesting. Carl Quintanilla of CNBC used to substitute quite regularly in the Brian Williams era but I don't recall him being on lately. The go-to substitutes are Kate Snow who anchors Sundays, the co-hosts of Saturday Today and co-chief White House correspondents Peter Alexander and Kristen Welker and more recently Tom Llamas.

Shepard Smith filled the role pretty well, as expected. I know some would speculate this means something big, but honestly, whenever Lester leaves it probably goes to Tom Llamas, I feel he's being readied to take Nightly News role, and why he defected from ABC since Muir is a young anchor too, and could be there for a couple decades.
I don't like how NBC Nightly News (and CBS Evening News) copied ABC with calling almost every story, Breaking News though. I prefer watching CNBC's "The News" over Nightly anyway.
Shepard Smith also did his show, it was from Studio 1A, but the shot was locked to him and the screen. They used the CNBC studio for presentation.

If anyone interested, here's the edited edition of Shep's appearance. He is really great, with no doubt: retaining some of its very histrionic style but he's able to do a much more serious delivery to fit the more mainstream focus of the broadcast. And although Shep did call out the headlines, he did it with its unmistakable style, but, indeed, that is the problem of the Big Three: too much calling out, leading to sensationalism and a excessive drama which is unnecessary for network news (specially for the evening news). I know ABC is the more tabloid option, NBC is more middle-market and CBS has the more enterprise offer, but anchors should stop yelling at the face of viewers when delivering the headlines and do it as natural as Cronkite, Brokaw, Jennings, Rather and (even) Bernie Shaw did.

Side note: Although I find Tom's delivery quite jarring, indeed, he will be able to hold on Lester's place in the case he retires.

The headline squences are longer than they ever had been. Just a guess.... I wonder if they noticed that people only watch the top stories and then change the channel?????.... who knows why its so long now.
But Shepherd is going to do Shepherd. He cut his teeth at WSVN and that Miami Tabloid DNA lives in his delivery, always will. YOu can tell he felt the gravity of presenting a network newscast, even after all these decades being an anchor.

MSNBC has debuted a new weekend morning talker with their legal analyst Katie Phang. An hour-long show, the show originates from Telemundo Center in Miami-Dade, and uses a repurposed Studio G, which is used for Telemundo Deportes programming and their version of The View/The Talk, La Mesa Caliente.

On today's Saturday edition of Today, the regular presenters Kristen Welker and Peter Alexander were both off with Covid, so Morgan Radford and Joe Fryer from NBC News Now hosted from Studio 1A instead of Washington.
I have to say it was the best edition I've seen in ages, which felt much more like the weekday Today show than Saturdays normally do. They used most of the studio instead of the usual desk-based presentation that we get in DC, with weekday-style creative camera work too, often featuring the people outside on the plaza.
Morgan and Joe did a great job filling in - they're definitely rising stars at NBC.

Beginning this week, The Rachel Maddow Show now airs on Mondays only, as the new longterm contract between Maddow and NBC News/MSNBC gets underway. During the rest of the week, the 9pm ET time slot will be occupied by MSNBC Prime, which will be produced using the existing Maddow team, and using a similar look to that of its counterpart. The show, which is a permanent replacement, is being presented by rotating hosts (in a temporary basis, supposedly), with Ali Velshi hosting the first week.

MSNBC and NBC News Now are making a change Meet the Press Daily is moving to NBC NEWS Now and being rebranded as Meet the Press Now , and replacing that 1pmET slot on MSNBC will be Chris Jansing Reports. Chris Jansing is back to scheduled anchoring at the network now. Starting June 6th.

Telemundo Launches New Spanish-Language Streaming News Service

NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises unveiled its 2022-23 season programming offerings Thursday morning—and while the majority of its announcements focused on sports and entertainment content, the company did announce the launch of a Spanish-language daily streaming news channel, Noticias Telemundo Ahora.
In partnership with NBC’s English-language ad-supported news streamer NBC News Now, Noticias Telemundo Ahora (Telemundo News Now) will offer 24-hour news content, available to the on-demand audience, covering breaking news and key Latino lifestyle topics, offering live reports from major U.S. cities, as well as interviews with today’s newsmakers and leading Spanish-speaking voices around the world.
No further details about the streaming service, including a launch date or programming, were disclosed today.
The launch of Noticias Telemundo Ahora marks a fourth streaming news service in the NBCU News Group portfolio—the aforementioned NBC News Now, the ad-supported Today All Day and the subscription-based MSNBC hub on Peacock.
Telemundo will be included in the NBCUniversal Upfront 2022 this coming Monday, May 16—and the network is also scheduled to host a celebration that evening at New York’s Ziegfeld Ballroom.

I'm not sure how long it's been like this, but the Saturday edition of the Today show, which comes from Washington, has changed the graphics on the studio screens to make the studio look streetside.

It looks pretty realistic on-screen. A vast improvement in my view, which makes the show feel much more like the weekday edition.

When NBC6 Miami WTVJ opted into the network feed for the NBC News Special Report about another school shooting, they had a really ropey 480p SD feed rather than a 1080i feed they usually have for Today/Nightly News etc. Considering WTVJ is an O&O, I thought they'd have line feeds?

I've been watching Shep Smith on CNBC which is running extended coverage. They clearly have more limited dedicated resources than some of the other NBC outlets, but Shep is being more of a traditional 'anchor' bringing updates from the wires and other outlets, pulling it all together and the coverage feels more coherent and all the better for it.
He's got a very calm and reflective tone, yet still crossing to some correspondents and guests to obtain necessary updates. Shep does seem wasted on CNBC.

It could some processing error such as the SR feed coming down the pipe and they ran it through their control room (which looks like it was). If they wanted to they could easily cut to the network feed like almost every station.

From what I understand most NBC News Channel feeds isn’t a direct satellite feed (that anyone could pickup) any more but from what I understand a IP based system over satellite. There was a Channel 15 though where all SR came down.
I don’t know if this would be fed down an network feed, such as the east coast feed.
