NBC News Now is adding an additional hour of primetime news, helmed by Hallie Jackson. The show will air from NBC News' Washington bureau every weekday, and will mix a fast-paced news briefing with some longer-form original reporting and behind-the-scenes looks at NBC News reporting.

At the same time, NBC News Now is quietly transitioning to the look they debuted during the launch of Top Story w/ Tom Llamas. In fact, there's a new promo already showing during programme breaks, which features variations of these graphics, and their YouTube thumbnail during live streams has switched to this:

However, most shows, bar Tom Llamas' show, are still with the original 2019 look.

NBC News Now's Hallie Jackson Now launched today, Hallie Jackson was ill for the original launch date of Monday, so it started today

It has it's own graphics that are different from the other parts of News Now and Top Stoy's graphics

It's done from the NBC News Washington Studios where Hallie Jackson is based, she's still doing her MSNBC hour as well. This was pretty good, a nice news based hour.

Here's the soundtrack used for that program.

I have to say, it does not seem urgent. Instead it seems like a reflection of the key stories, probably also the program's justification of existence.

Hallie Jackson Now looks to be an excellent programme from what I've seen of it. I'm not surprised - I've always found Hallie to be a fantastic journalist.

I think it works well in the Meet The Press studio with the newsroom background for the desk shots. I much prefer the straps to the ones used for Tom Llamas - a bit odd that they now have three separate styles across the day, but hopefully this is only temporary.

The only thing that amuses me slightly is that, on a modern, digital news channel, the animation of the show logo and indeed the NBC News Now logo in the corner appears to be inspired by the flashing MS DOS cursor.

It actually is. NBC News Now has a complete relaunch today, at least in the dayside coverage (10am-5pm ET). Who knows Hallie's show would serve as our first look for it?

I see that they're trying to emulate MSNBC's blocky style, but not making it CNN-lite like that channel. And nothing makes the "main title" in the strap (whatever's on the leftmost side of it) weirder than having an underscore sign at the end of text.

We'll see how the new graphics develop in "Top Story" and, tomorrow, "Morning News Now."

Here's NewscastStudio's piece about this, which could explain things better than I ever do.

"Top Story" kept the graphics it's launched with

I like the new look it's clean and simple, the music is good too, simple and the chimes are good touch.

The only thing I don't like with the rebrand is that they removed the "live" indicator... back then when a segment or program is live, the "NOW" box of the logo will turn red, otherwise it'll become white if its recorded. Given the amount of repeats and non-live hours of NBC News NOW, I now don't know whether the segment currently playing (e.g press conference) is live or recorded/repeat. They need some sort of "live indicator" like MSNBC...

Just so you know, the 7am, 11am, 3pm, 5pm and 7pm hours are live. And that's it.

If they toss over to an event for a long time with breaking news banner, it's live more often than not. (Although you won't know, as mentioned, "if you're just joining" them.)

I don't ever want to see the MSNBC's "live indicator" ever on NN. That thing appears all the time, even during recorded segments and overnight repeats (the latter, of course, with timestamps from original version, not the current time). If there's one, use it responsibly: appear when it is, remove when it isn't.

And just hours ago...

I'm really glad they've gone with those graphics rather than the Tom Llamas ones. I liked the old caption-style ones but these are fine, animate nicely and work well with the new logo. I much prefer the new headline sequence graphics to the old blocky red ones.

Also, I'm really pleased that they're making more of the NBC chimes in the new music - I always thought they were missing a trick there.

So the new schedule seems to be...

5am ET: Early Today
7am: Morning News Now
11am: NBC News Now with Aaron Gilchrist and Morgan Radford
3pm: NBC News Now with Alison Morris
5pm: Hallie Jackson Now
6pm: Hallie Jackson Now (repeat of the previous hour?)
7pm: Top Story w/ Tom Llamas
8pm: Hallie Jackson Now (repeat)
9pm: Top Story w/ Tom Llamas (repeat)
10pm: NBC Nightly News (repeat)
10.30pm: NBC Nightly News (repeat)
11pm: Top Story w/ Tom Llamas (repeat)
12am: Hallie Jackson Now (repeat)
1am: NBC Nightly News (repeat)

Fixed it for you right there.

With this really odd schedule, tossing into live events are very rough. This morning is an example of that. Around 8:15am ET, during the morning loop, the repeat was interrupted to take a live news conference. Once the event ended, it just did (i.e. no anchors comment sth along the lines of "So you've just heard..." or whatevs) and the repeat loop continues with a commercial break already in progress.

I'm also reasonably certain that all breaking news coverage are done from the NBC network or its affiliates, rather than NBCNN themselves.

NBC News, MSNBC, CNBC, Affiliates and TODAY - mark - 19-11-2021

There are sometimes slight updates to those longer 7-11 and 11-3 loops. I checked back through the YouTube stream once and noticed a couple of different links at the top of different hours on Morning News Now.

I guess this all works on the basis that most people don't watch for long enough to notice the repetition. I personally haven't unless I've actively gone looking for it, and I've joined during breaking news but never caught it crashing in or out.

I guess an hour is a long time in terms of news channel viewing - and you'd have to watch for longer than that to notice the loop, if you notice it at all.

I've seen lots of NBC News Special Reports on NBC News Now, but haven't seen any coverage from affiliates. The latter makes a lot of sense, though.

NBC News, MSNBC, CNBC, Affiliates and TODAY - news727 - 20-11-2021

On Friday, with the Rittenhouse verdict, we get a really odd schedule. At 1:06pm live coverage starts, 1:10pm NBC special report, 1:30pm coverage continues, 2:08pm a repeat of everything we'd just seen, 3:05pm the live continued, 3:35pm conclusion.

Based on what we found out, we can safely conclude that NBCNN is operated in the same way Today and network evening newscasts are... Just run all the taped segments - complimented with different intros and as-warranted updates for packages, and well, that's how a recorded broadcast becomes "live".
