Just seen this on the timeline and thought this was definitely a TV Live Forum topic. Hopefully, nobody has beaten me to it.

Someone at ITV, help me out here - why a dedicated Hell's Kitchen channel? I'm not complaining, I just want to know why...

Oh these are free ad supported channels

A Hell's Kitchen channel already exists on Pluto TV, I imagine this will function in a similar way.

"ITV Samsung" was asking for trouble after all.
Back to back to back to back documentaries about the Samsung Corporation. You'd have to throw your telly away. (and replace it with a Samsung, the only brand that ignores ITV Samsung) Wink

Considering the fact that these are streaming channels, is this more suited for the Mass Media forum?
Still waiting on DVB-T2! She/they.

A chancel exclusively showing Hell’s Kitchen sounds a bit like… well, Hell.

As has been said, it's been on Pluto TV for several years, so clearly enough people like it to keep it going!

It's an interesting idea though.

Would a 'channel' that is exclusively streaming Big Bang Theory or Friends work via Netflix? It's a lot easier to just select a stream and dip in and out than starting episodes and deciding what to put on. Sitcoms especially seem to have a causal audience, just look at E4's daytime schedule.

ITV have looked at how ViacomCBS have revitalised Pluto TV by adding their own brand playlists onto the platform and want to expand on that with Samsung to gain more revenue on another platform.

I think the idea of adding some themed channels using Netflix's VOD content is a good idea, you can leave it on in the background without fear of being prompted to continue playing the show. Pirate IPTV providers already offer this service.

I'm a fan of Gordo myself but 24 hours of him...I think they might be overestimating people's appetite to see him.

These are known as "FAST" (free ad-supported streaming TV) channels, as mentioned, the channel streams on Pluto TV are also examples of FAST channels, which includes the newly launched BBC Kids and Ninos por BBC channels in the U.S.

Are these basically going to be apps available via Samsung TV then?

Yes, agree that is the sort of genre where it works and the likes of Comedy Central here and MTV in the US (with Ridiculousness) are kind of already doing that with their linear channel. Indeed suspect the reason C4 do it across their channels with Come Dine with Me back to back episodes is it is a format where it doesn't matter if you've missed the first few episodes of the week az each one still stands up on it's own. Not so sure if that is the case for Hell's Kitchen though.

Fair play though ITV have got some mileage out of a format that initially flopped for them, though the US format wasalways stronger. Indeed as ITV2, BBC3 and E4 all seem to be aiming a bit older they could probably do worse than commission a version for the ITV2 audience stripped across 3-4 weeks.

Channels like that already exists on Pluto US.

Baywatch, 90210 (Beverly Hills 90210, Melrose Place and 90210 in 4 hour blocks), 80s sitcoms (back to back episodes of stuff like One Day At A Time in 4 hour blocks), Degrassi, Justice (Judge Judy and other court shows back to back in 4 hour blocks) and quite a few more.

Pluto is extremely successful in younger age groups and seems to have found the right mix of on demand and themed live streaming channels. Just because younger viewers don't do linear TV it doesn't mean they always want to pick something from huge VOD catalogues as it's much easier to "just out something on" especially if it's for background watching.

I assume it'll be a part of the existing Samsung TV Plus service, which is essentially the same premise as Pluto TV, but as far as I can tell is only accessible to owners of Samsung smart TVs.

Samsung TV Plus is available on all Samsung devices and I think in the Google Play Store too for other Android users, the same as Apple TV+ is.
