I always take these polls with a pinch of salt as they tend to be skewed to recent memory, but one glaring omission to me is EastEnders?

As you say EastEnders also The Office and Dad's Army but agree recency bias plays a part, big fan of Line of Duty and Gavin & Stacey but surprised to see them in the Top 10, same with Call the Midwife

We all know that The Sky At Night is the true Number One. I thought Monty Python would rank

Saw Paul whitehouse talking about this on the one show- he look like Unlucky Alf these days without any need for makeup...

Would like to see what the 50 shows in the poll were - it took place last week but now the vote is closed the list has gone. Not sure either how many people could vote for as choosing 1 from 50 instead of 5 from 50 or a top 10 will produce different results.
The top 5 is a decent mix with comedy, light entertainment and three quite different dramas, but agree I'd have liked to have seen the likes of the Generation Game and Noels House Party up nearer the top end of the list.

The vote worked the same way as Strictly Come Dancing. You had 3 votes and could use them all on one show, or vote once for 3 different shows (or 2 for one, 1 for another)

The shortlist seems to have been archived here:
I'm guessing part of the reason the short list of 50 programmes was compiled by a panel was to ensure all the ones listed were still deemed appropriate. Else with the aid of certain social media groups the top 10 might have awkwardly ended up including the likes of Jim'll Fix It, and The Black & White Minstrels.
Formerly 'Charlie Wells' of TVForum.
...and that list again in ascending order:

Around half the shows on the list are comedies which perhaps shouldn't be surprising. Could argue all year about what should and shouldn't be on the shortlist but of the shows on the list surprised Match of the Day and The Two Ronnies didn't break into the top 20.

These lists can be impossible to get right (older forum members will remember there were loads of these around the time of the millennium). The most glaringly missing shows from the Top 50 though- based on eminence and popularity- are surely Grandstand, Noel’s HP, The Fast Show, Not the 9 o’Clock News, Panorama, Z Cars, Til Death Us Do Part and Are You Being Served

To be honest I was half expecting My Family to appear on the list, since it ran for far longer than a lot of the shows on that list did. Yes it was mostly crap in the later years but..
No mention of Keeping Up Appearances either. Sheridan will be very displeased and I'm sure has already been on the blower to his mummy on her white slimline phone with last number redial - if he's not busy with Tarquin
