Shiny floor shows from Glasgow

BBC Scotland reporting today that BBC Studioworks are extensively refurbishing part of Kelvin Hall in Glasgow for shiny floor studio productions.

A vote of confidence in Glasgow it would seem (along with some government grants!).

This is great news for Glasgow! I definitely want to be part of studio audiences at the new studio when it opens next autumn, having done many virtual audiences in the past few years.

Is this the same space that used to often host indoor athletics and I think Davis Cup Tennis as the Kelvin Hall International Sports Arena?

They couldn't get their hands on Studio A and B at PQ...

...so I guess Kelvin Hall is the alternative. I wonder if this will increase the amount of production in Glasgow or just take work away from Pacific Quay?

Probably a bit of both. The thing to remember though is that Studioworks have been chosen to operate the studio, it's not their development. So it was happening anyway whether they were involved or not. Better for the BBC to have them run by their commercial arm than a rival.

Oh, good old BBC Politics which will now likely see BBC Studioworks competing with BBC Scotland for work. In reality "shiny floor shows" may just end up being Mrs Browns Boys.

TBH given studio space is at a premium, more studio space is a good thing.

It must be a real bummer for Wales that none of the entertainment shows aside from Only Connect ever film there.

Not really - Wales has done very well out of the premium end of the market with drama and film whilst BBC wise at least quotas often seem to be met by sending cheap gameshows up to Glasgow.
