Looking at the top 40 biggest sellers of the year, here's how the artists above fit into that:
12 & 15: Joel Corry 16. Tom Grennan 20. Anne-Marie & KSI 33. Mimi Webb And Becky Hill at #39 on the New Year special. It's basically less "these are the biggest songs of the year!" these days and more "here's who we could get to show up".

Don;t get me wrong, I am in favour of them using lesser-known artists rather than just the 'easy wins' of the big names.
I might even watch the show so that I get an idea of what music they are involved in....I might like it. This is why the show should come back full time!! I'm just wallowing in age-related self-pity that's all. Don't mind me.....

Back at its peak presumably the kudos and benefits of being on TOTP was enough payment to get record companies to make artists available to appear but I'm guessing nowadays artists may have to be paid to appear. I don't think those who stream content all year are suddenly going to watch BBC1 at midday on Christmas Day.
