With the upcoming BBC rebrand proving to initially at least be just a rebadging of the existing idents I thought it might be worth looking at some examples of where that has been done before, either successfully or not so much so.
I guess there are a few reasons why it might happen - now as in back in 1997 sacrificing an excellent and popular set of BBC2 idents to accomodate a new logo would be somewhat throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Another key reason in the multi-channel environment is that the master brand may change, but the budget doesn't extend to new idents for all the channels. Sometimes there might be a channel name change as well as a new logo, but for whatever reason the idents remain - and other times a decision is just made to stick it on what they've got for now rather than delay the new logo until a new look is ready. Occassionally too an old ident might be dug out of the archives to be repurposed for a special occassion.
BBC2 in 1997 is the most obvious example so I won't include videos of them. More recently though I think the C4 refresh which saw all the spin-off channels use their unique logos in favour of an adopted C4 logo is an example of how it can be done well, with the new logo integrated into the ident as in Film4, and how it can be done badly, with the new logo slapped on an existing ident which was clearly designed around the old logo, as in More4.

I'm sure there are plenty more examples which people can add, especially from the depths of the digital channels.
