Getting in before the inevitable hysteria... no, this still doesn't mean he'll automatically now be back on GMB.
The statement refers to Piers' comments being acceptable due to rules allowing people to air their "potentially harmful or highly offensive" views. Hardly a ringing endorsement of Saint Piers or his style. :?

He was entitled to an opinion and shouldn't have been trialled by Twitter and letters to Ofcom over these particular remarks. I think ITV handled it badly and should regret their 'apologise or leave' attitude. Whether you like watching him or not, he made that programme different from the alternatives and made it interesting.

The issue for ITV and GMB was that he was also saying he didn't believe Megan's claims regarding her mental health. This was particularly problematic for a broadcaster that was running a 'Get Britain Talking' campaign to promote mental health awareness. If I recall the following day Piers did make some attempt to clarify that his opinion regarding the specific mental health part, though I can't recall if that was before or after 'storming off'. Had he made it clear that "apart from her mental health claims he didn't believe a word of her" on the first day then I dare say he would still be presenting, as ITV and GMB would have had less of a dilemma.
Personally I doubt he'll return to GMB at least not in the immediate future, even though he's been cleared by OFCOM. However today's ruling would make it easier for him to join another programme or channel.
EDIT: It's worth noting the detail of the OFCOM ruling whilst clearing ITV/Piers contained the following...
Quote:However, the regulator said it was concerned about his comments about suicide and mental health.
"We were particularly concerned about Mr Morgan's approach to such an important and serious issue and his apparent disregard for the seriousness of anyone expressing suicidal thoughts."
Ofcom "would have been seriously concerned" if he had not been challenged by co-hosts Susanna Reid and Chris Ship, which provided "adequate protection for viewers", it said.

People really need to stop getting annoyed by others wanting Piers to return. This is a discussion/opinion board to discuss goings-on and potential incoming/outgoings on TV. People will have different views, but to keep having a go at them for wanting his return... it's become out of order now.
Why are certain people on here absolutely convinced that piers is not returning? Do you have actual proof if so please share. Until then let people have their own views and stop shutting them down. I think he will return.
Well, there's a way of going about it and people like yourself are not doing it in the right way...

Please, folks.
This is getting silly and it's sad to see people squabbling over something so trifling on the very first page of the thread!
Ultimately, nobody here has any 'proof' on either side.
Stating opinion as fact isn't useful to anyone, though repeating the same opinion that you personally want him back or don't want him back over and over again isn't going to lead to an especially interesting read, either.
There's little point in...
"I want him back. He'll be back on the show in no time."
"He isn't coming back."
"You don't know that though. I want him back."
"You don't know either. I hope he doesn't return."
[ad infinitum]
That's not 'discussion' - that's just cyclical waffle, and it cannot morph into anything more interesting at this stage because there's nothing concrete to base anything on.
Respect that people have completely different views on Piers and we seem fairly split on loving him and hating him here, but we just seem to be going round in circles and bickering with each other thus far, and it's not good to see.
If and when something concrete is announced, post it here, and then we'll discuss it - in a respectful way.
