Late Night Mash on Dave

Many felt it was axed for politcal reasons but for me I thought after a couple of series it had actually run out of steam a bit and certainly suffered more than most in it's lockdown guise. In addition for me The Ranganation covered the same ground but better, plus I think it's last series ended up airing against The Last Leg as well.

It should do well enough for Dave though - topical comedy isn't something they do much of really.

I tried watching the first series of The Mash Report but didn’t really like it, it felt quite forced.

Imagine if they’d done it twenty years ago with Angus Deayton as host.

The only real genuine stand out comedy was Rachel Parris' segment. But good to see UKTV pick it up.

I liked the first couple of series but I agree, the show definitely suffered when it was in its ‘lockdown’ phase - to be fair a lot of comedy shows did - and it had felt it had maybe run its course anyway before it was axed. Good luck to them though, some good people involved in Mash so I hope it goes well.

Dave have commissioned 8x60 of Late Night Mash, the new name for The Mash Report with all contributors returning.

Don't really understand why they're rebranding it.

Presumably the BBC own the copyright to the name.

I would have thought The Daily Mash, which the show is based on, would own the name.

Dave is owned by the BBC

Have Ellie Taylor and Rachel Parris now left? They've not appeared since the first episode but are still listed in the episode description.

Must say though it still has it's moments it is struggling to fill the hour and not exactly showing the BBC they were wrong, especially without Rachel Parris.

Ratings for the second show from all it's showings on Dave totalled 251,000 viewers.

Ellie is on tour from the 26th September, so I suspect she's concentrating on rehearsals. Rachel is on tour from the end of October, so I'm speculating that she has other commitments which clashed with Mash this series.

Anyone else think the audience laughter doesn't sound real now? Is the studio audience too small - I think I've seen a max of about 16 people so far - so they've had to "sweeten" it?

Rachel had a baby not long ago which might be a reason to scale back her appearances.

I agree that it's struggling with its duration a bit, that said I always found with the BBC Two episodes that I enjoyed the start and my interest tailed off as an episode went on, however for whatever reason I'm lasting a lot longer with it in this format

Dave channel is owned by the commercial arm of the BBC - BBC Studios, and is a very different company to the main BBC. Even though both shows use the BBC, The Mash Report used the main BBC licence fee funded section, whereas the new version on Dave uses the commercial subsidiary company of the BBC.
