Don't suppose we can hold out too much hope for a revival of the searing version of the show hosted by Lamarr and Amstell, and not the much weaker guest series from later (OK, so some of the guest hosts were great, but they should have chosen a new permanent host)

They did! Rhod Gilbert was the permanent host in the final series before it got canned. Was actually quite enjoyable from memory but was probably too late to turn the tide

I think the big problem with Buzzocks towards the end was that the regulars - Gilbert, Jupitus, Fielding - were all in their mid-forties (or older) while all the guests were about sixteen, so it was a really weird mix, which can't have appealed to anyone. What they should have done is either forget about modern music completely and aim it at an older audience, or get in some much younger regulars who were a bit more in touch with the current pop scene, like with Amstell, and aim it at a younger audience. I love Greg Davies dearly but I feel that these regulars suggests the mix might not be quite right.

I loved it under Simon Amstell, though, I loved that it genuinely seemed interested in pop music and had proper opinions. There was a great bit where he did a joke about Chris Moyles, and said "Other Radio 1 DJs include Fearne Cotton and Jo Whiley. It's not good enough, is it?"

Daisy May Cooper is brilliant on anything she appears and I like both Fielding and Greg Davies but agree this feels really badly cast.

I'm surprised nobody has posted about the return of Buzzcocks since it returned last week, but I'm enjoying it.

Episode 2 was a much stronger episode with Ellie Goulding and Yungblud, but Greg Davies was an inspired choice for presenter while Noel Fielding gives it some continuity with the BBC episodes.

I don't think it helped that the panellist from Little Mix had a clearly scripted joke about Liam Gallagher.

Hopefully without Daisy. What on earth is she taking before these shows? I like This Country and I liked her on Taskmaster but she really grates here.

Greg and Noel can stay. I actually may be in a minority who liked the guest host era of original Buzzcocks best- I found Lamarr and Amstell both really pompous and arrogant, whereas Greg gets the balance right.

I do find it misses Phill Jupitus (and Bill Bailey- was never keen on the little Irish fella though) but I don't think the TV execs would be happy to have two white straight males as captains in the current climate. Lauren Laverne would make a pretty good captain though- she was on as a guest in the last series, she knows about music, she has good comedy timing,she's worked regularly alongside comedians on a show with Jimmy Carr, Charlie Brooker and David Mitchell many years back that I can't for the life of me remember the name of. Or maybe Doc Brown would be a good captain?
