Look forward to seeing new graphics on-screen hopefully. The current look is incredibly cheap and amateur-looking.

I really hope they incorporate some of the original features of the set which have been largely the same for the past ten years.
I'm thinking the brick walls and the bric-a-brac littered shelves.

I have a nightmare-ish vision of it being a large replica of the Washington set for the CBS Evening News.

The press release linked to in the tweet seems to be geoblocked, so here's the TVNewser story:
https://www.adweek.com/tvnewser/cbs-this...re/478983/

Here's the CBS memo. If they're using 'studio' literally, it could be a completely new set - but, if they're using the word as a synonym for 'set', they might be using the election night set as the starting point.

Quote:Good afternoon,

We are thrilled to announce today that CBS THIS MORNING will be moving to a new home in Times Square in the ViacomCBS headquarters this fall.

You saw a preview of the studio on Election Night. Now we’re taking it a step further.

Moving into this state-of-the-art studio gives CBS THIS MORNING the space and technology to create a more engaging experience for audiences across every platform.

Many people throughout the company worked hard to make this studio a reality before we arrived, and we are grateful to Bob Bakish and George Cheeks for their support. We want to thank our Vice President of News Operations Rick Jefferson, Creative Director Renee Cullen, Executive Producer Shawna Thomas and the entire team working to see this project through.

And a special thanks to our friends at ViacomCBS who are so graciously welcoming us to the building.

This studio affords us more versatility in how we produce and deliver the broadcast. But just as important it serves as an excellent representation of how collaboration makes us all stronger.

We hope you are just as excited as we are about what’s to come this fall. Please see the press release below.

I'm not sure whether they'd use the windows as it's been mentioned before that Good Morning America is across the street. It's not immediately opposite - it's one block down, so the view immediately across from the CBS studio is this...

...but you don't have to look far to the right to see GMA, and you can't exactly miss it.

I'd love to see if they put a ticker on the outside just to mimic ABC. Also now all four networks have studios within an 8 street-by-2 avenue area.

Yep. There was a time in the early 00s when almost all the main morning shows were within a short walk of each other: GMA in Times Square, Fox and Friends and CNN's American Morning one block over on 6th Avenue, Today in Rockefeller Plaza (between 5th and 6th Avenue) and CBS's Early Show on 5th Avenue up by Central Park.

When I was in New York in 2002, I wandered round all of those while the shows were on air and was amazed at how little time it took.

Nowadays you can add CNBC's Squawk Box (at the Nasdaq MarketSite in Times Square) and Fox Business's Mornings with Maria (same building as Fox and Friends) into the mix too. You could probably just about count Morning Joe on MSNBC, as Willie Geist is at 30 Rock, although Joe and Mika have been based at their home studio in Florida for a long time now.

This also speaks to the complete and total lack of creativity in American broadcast television. Every morning show is the same, every late night show is the same. They all air news at the same time. Their prime time schedules consist of the same kind of shows. Cable offers more options. But I can't fathom why broadcast doesn't experiment more. CBS This Morning used to be different, but those differences are subtle and they seem keen on becoming more of a traditional morning show. Even having a morning show come from a different city, like Washington D.C. or Chicago, would be way to differentiate themselves.

I'd say things have become a bit more diverse since my 2002 visit. Back then, Today, GMA and The Early Show all had very similar formats and streetside studios, which CNN's American Morning was trying to mimic.

At least now CBS and CNN offer newsier alternatives. And it's good that CBS This Morning has been able to grow its ratings by doing that - even though, as you say, they've introduced a few elements that are more like Today and GMA since launch.

The space they are moving to is the old MTV space when MTV had live programming like "Total Request Live" it came from that studio. Actually it was divided up, then TRL of course ended. I'd hope they'd use the windows because otherwise, what's the point of moving, but I'd hope they'd use the studio that's not showing GMA's space that'd be awkward. I think one of the spaces became an Aéropostale store not sure if it is now.

They did use the south side set for TRL's rival and well look what's in the window

Here's how it looked when they brought back TRL http:// https://www.newscaststudio.com/setstudio/trl/

WTTG the Fox owned station serving Washington DC will be moving to a new commercial building in Bethesda, MD. I was anonymously sent two images of renders of their new set. Right now the expected launch date is mid to late July. I originally posted these to TVNewsTalk as an exclusive hence the watermark.

I want to speak about the time thing. The issue is contracts. The network times are written specifically into the affiliate contracts making it very difficult for them to change things up.

If say CBS were to move the morning news to start at 8AM they’d lose the audience as most would tune into GMA or Today and wouldn’t switch over. Additionally that would require stations to produce an extra hour of news (affiliate contracts I’ve seen for ABC, NBC and CBS require a half hour of news as a lead in to morning shows) putting more strain and work on crews that have already produced 2.5 - 3 hours of news already and are expected to do updates for the next two hours. Additionally that would tax the local station or require some contracts to be redone.

However if GMA wanted to a consecutive third hour they’d have to move 1PM GMA3 WYNTK to 9AM and revert that slot to affiliates (effectively the affiliates would just swap programming).

If CBS This Morning were to add a third hour they would have to either cancel a show and move the affiliates 9AM show to the cancelled show time slot or fight the affiliates to get the hour back. If they were to fight the affiliates it would probably take a year or two for full clearance for syndicated show contracts to run out - it took a while for the 3rd hour of Today to be cleared in 1999 when it was known as Later Today (locally in Baltimore the fourth hour isn’t cleared at all - the only station not to clear it I think they must pay NBC to make up for lost ad sales).

More schedule changes are coming to NewsNation, which looks to be struggling to find a decent audience...

Newsnation would be better off being a 1 hour newscast and the remaining 23 hours a day used for what they do best, showing re-runs.
