As for this - be interesting to see how it does but it's got car crash written all over it. I just don't think the Americans will get it and it'll end up being a country bore fest.

Interesting to note the EBU have sold the rights to a consortium which includes Christer Bjorkman and they've now found a partner for Broadcast. This is now at a long enough distance, twice removed, so as not to cause embarrassment and financial risk if it fails.
I wonder if this might fill the hole left by the Golden Globes next year on NBC.

I fail to see how this format transfers to the US. Does music really change from state to state? Can a piece of music really be so popular in California and totally unpopular in Rhode Island for example? Or am I missing something?

Event television. There's still power in something that's watched together, and the feeling you're watching something at the exact same time as lots of other people.
