Sony Pictures Television (UK) who own POP and Sony Movies Action/Classic has been sold to Narrative Capital.

All of their channels will rebrand under the Narrative Entertainment banner on May 25th.

Looks like only their channels have been sold but not their TV production companies which they either own or have a stake in like Stellify.

Really doesn't surprise me. Sony has had it rough in terms of TV channels, even mostly having no clue what kind of purpose "True Crime" has. I think it could be because Sony sees no value in it's TV channels in the UK and didn't get the right audience reach as they were hoping? I guess? Sounds like they're keeping the POP brands though as there's a stronger value to them than the "Sony" branded channels ever had.
Also known as "Allanbuzzy" on other places.

I think the first sign of this was the Ofcom broadcast license transfers to a mysterious company called "Crown 11 Ltd" back in March. Until today (14th May), its business address was the same as Columbia Pictures Corporation Ltd (aka Sony Television), and its board members are also board members for other London based Sony TV subsidiaries. I believe that this company was purposely setup to separate the TV channel assets from Sony Television so the TV channels can be easily sold off as a single business.

Also, the founder and CEO of CSC Media Group (the company Sony acquired), Remy Minute has returned as CEO to help with the Sony to Narrative transition, he also helped broker the deal.

I've had a look at POP's and Sony Channel's website and the copyright notice has already been changed to "Narrative Entertainment UK Limited", this is what "Crown 11 Ltd" will be renamed to, as it's the same company number listed in their terms and conditions and privacy policy.

The Sony channels hadn't been renamed/rebranded for at least a fortnight, so I guess something was going to happen soon.

They’re currently running promos for the rebranded channels:

Sony Channel = Great! TV
Sony Movies = Great! Movies
Sony Movies Classic / Christmas = Great! Movies Classic / Christmas
Sony Movies Action = Great! Movies Action

I was going to say, the original post implied they were going to be called Narrative Movies etc but on closer inspection the Variety article says ALL channels (including Pop) will just sit under the Narrative Entertainment banner.

*inserts rude word that's the opposite of great that sums up this rebrand*

I wonder if the kids channel will get renamed at all then? Having "Great!" in front of any channel name sounds awful as is, but Great! Pop sounds like a music channel for a start. Great! Kix sounds like a sports channel.

Most likely not, as the announcement only included the Sony-branded channel's names, so i think the POP channels will be unaffected by the rebrand.

It only seems like yesterday when the current (soon former) look was announced.

Not sold on the “Great!” name at all. If anything, it makes the channel sound worse. Great! Movies sounds rather odd too, and the sister channels work even less.

Just my opinion, but it makes it sound like a miniscule American terrestrial channel along the lines of MeTV & Antenna TV.

They should have just put them under the Narrative brand instead.

I agree with you

The Sony brand was so important to these channels IMO. They may be known for the electronics rather than content delivery but having a well known brand attached to them made them stand out from the numerous other Freeview channels.

Reminds me of a line from Kenny Everett....

Great! Doesn't it?
