Easter Idents and Presentation

Inspired by this post in the ITV thread of their Easter selection in the 2013 package:

They've never really been a thing, certainly not compared to Christmas, but I think have cropped up from time to time and also been used in surrounding presentation.

I thought BBC1 did a "Love Easter" variant a few years back but turns out it was actually Love Spring, but had an Easter Weekend sting.

IIRC Channel 5 had some Easter idents in their early years, but I can't find them. Other than that I guess childrens TV may have been the most likely to do something.


Just a shame now that the Easter weekend doesn't really offer much out of the norm TV wise - at one point it was almost like a mini-Christmas with some shows getting specials, perhaps left over from the Festive period.

Some of the ITV regions used to commemorate Easter with a special IVC background (sometimes based on the graphics used on ITV’s Easter promotions), and custom menu slides. A couple of examples from Tyne Tees in the 80s/early 90s:

You can't go wrong with a bit of Tom & Jerry. A real shame they don't turn up as early evening filler anymore - it's the sort of thing the nation needed over the last year and should for example the BBC have had 10 minutes to spare between a briefing and the Six far better for viewers mental health than recapping everything Covid wise yet again.

I always wondered why the BBC or ITV never had easter idents until 2013. Maybe it is not as big as Christmas commercially

It's a sign of the times, religion is being removed from British TV to make it neutral friendly. Christmas idents are no longer Christmas idents, they are Winter idents, and Easter idents are just spring themed.

With respect, this is absolute nonsense. For a start BBC One today showed Sunday Worship, Urbi et Orbi, Heavenly Gardens and Songs of Praise.

Anymore? Tom and Jerry (classic era) hasn't been on terrestrial TV since 2001. CBBC did air some of the other spin offs later but the classic cartoons all upped sticks and moved to Boomerang. Its one of those franchises that they keep adding to that gets more and more detached from the original vision with every incarnation, although that may have more to do with two key facts: 1) it was excessively violent, which was ripe to be toned down as the years pass, and 2) they were not made for children in the first place. They were actually made for cinema viewing, before the main feature which would almost be aimed at the grown-ups.
