A question about projectors

I’m considering buying a projector for both day and night-time use. I’ve been looking at various model reviews but realise I’m running before I walk. I’m looking at the following requirements:

Price, suitability for both entertainment and work use (specifically for iPad Air and Nvidia Shield)and how many lumens are needed for daytime use.

Has anyone got such a setup and does work for them?

For what reasons are you looking at a projector rather than a television?

I presume portability is one argument. Much easier to move a projector around the house (or outside) than it is to lug a massive 50-inch TV.

Apart from size it a case of minimalist/decluttering.

It really depends on your budget, and whether you're happy with losing some of your colour definition. If you're dead set on replacing your Television with a projector, LG do make some smashing ones

Thanks for that.I’ve also been looking at a firm called Optoma. As I said its something I may do in the future.

I believe projectors are one of those "you get what you pay for" things. So if you buy a cheap £50 one from Amazon you might only be able to see a picture from it when its dark enough.

Also running costs, as the bulbs can be quite expensive for projectors, and I dare say all other things being equal a TV will probably be more energy efficient. Plus of course you have to get cables to the unit (not all will have the input range a TV will).
It also used to be the case that they were only any good if you had a white wall to project onto (or a stand), but I'm not sure if things have changed in this regard.

My walls aren’t pure white plus I’m reluctant to buy anything like that on Amazon (the Optoma was advertised on Amazon for the record)

I have a 43 inch LG TV from AO and its superb but I did have a cheapo projector from Amazon for a while and missed that wall sized width(!)

Thanks for that.I’ve also been looking at a firm called Optoma. As I said its something I may do in the future.

I've used Optoma projectors in the past and they seem to have good picture and brightness. If you're on a budget I would recommend going for an older used projector rather than one of the cheap new ones on Amazon. I bought an old Liesegang one for £10 and it's very visible even in daylight.
