Outside Broadcasting - Past and Present

I notice that both This Morning and Loose Women both decided to take advantage of meeting up to 6 people outside by having parts of their shows outside of TVC. It worked better with This Morning as they regularly do broadcasts outside but the Loose Women was fine. I wonder if Morning Live might decide to a OB outside of NBH in the future, it's not as pretty as TVC but you could have fun with it.

Would be interesting to see other examples of studio based shows doing OB from the past.

ITV Evening News also came from outside today at Hyde Park. They even made a comment at the end of the broadcast thanking people for watching and from "the team of six here at Hyde Park...".

Wasn’t there a spectacular BBC London News a couple of years ago presented on location during the hottest most prolonged heatwave for years and it poured with rain?

The all time classic of the genre has to be episode 2 of WOW, when Maidstone had a power cut, and Sim Courtie basically improvised a show from the car park

Whilst it's shame they no longer have the real view of the Thames, it's great to see them outside of the studio and showcasing TVC, it may not be the TV factory it once was but it's an iconic building.

yes it's disappeared from YouTube but I could easily see that having been a car crash with a different presenter

Reading this made me recall a segment of Breakfast from October last year, when Louise headed to the MediaCity garden to chat with Andrew Cotter. This was the closest thing to actually physically having guests on 'the sofa', with social distancing / BBC guidelines preventing them being in the studio.

It would be nice if this became a 'halfway house' until they were allowed in again (weather permitting), although would be quite logistically demanding I would imagine (planning ahead guests/crew etc. at short notice), and only feasible for high-profile/'feature' guests. It would be a welcome break from relentless Zoom/Skypes though!

Agree with that totally. I don't think I'd seen Wow before that day but being me I kept watching. It was hilarious but also impressive that they managed to get on air at all.

Biggest memory was the constant reminders from Sim that Maidstone had a power cut, I had no idea where Maidstone was or how it was relevant. :lol:

Had a slight frisson yesterday driving past Aintree Racecourse and seeing an NEP truck in the car park of the Aintree Tandoori...if previous Grand Nationals are anything to go by there’ll be two others joining it. Growing up a few streets away from the Racecourse during the 70s and 80s I often saw a glimpse of a BBC truck in its green and grey livery in the gap between two houses on Melling Road. Much better than the actual racing!
