As posted previously, new logos for Cymru Wales, NI and Scotland

Dull and bland compared to the distinctive versions they replaced which enabled them to stand out in their own right, rather than as just yet another sub-division of the BBC.

You could literally say that about the 1997 versions. If anything these are less bland than the 1997 ones.

Reading them, people clearly don’t understand the new logos because they’re not being used elsewhere (ok, a few exceptions), but the effect is that the apps don’t relate to the service in their minds.

I happen to like them but think the rollout is unfathomable.

all recent ones say the new logo is unintelligible and give the app one star.

That really doesn't seem smart

....as in, giving the app one star over how the icon looks instead of how the app actually functions.

I'd say exactly the opposite, to me the new versions are more bland than the 1997 ones.

New BBC America logo appeared for the first time in Doctor Who: Legend of the Sea Devils. It had been similarities to 2021 logo but in Reith font instead Gill Sans. Not sure whether new logo appears on-air.

It looks a little like they’re spelling “America” with a double “r”, which is a currious bit of design.

It is intended to be a cut-out of the “America” to fit the boxy logo. It has been used since the Brit-ish 2021 rebrand AMC carried out after taking over operations of the channel. In Gill Sans it looks good, but in Reith it just simply looks very out of place.

A question about how the identifiers [the icons] will behave once on screen - hoping it's as soon as people have said it'll be

Once the blocks come down and animate into said identifiers, do they animate back into the BBC logo, or does the surrounding pres handle that? What'll happen if there isn't a blip at the end?

Probably it's just a question of personal taste

I would agree with this. In terms of concept, the two rebrands are very much alike and focus on consistency rather than personality, with the surrounding presentation doing the heavy lifting on the personality front; however I’ve always thought the 1997 logo and surrounding “Anything” branding has an air of timeless elegance to it.

Time will only tell if the 2022 reinterpretation has that same timeless appeal, although I’ll say in my opinion, while I’ve gotten used to the new BBC logo, compared with its predecessor side-by-side, it still feels like a weaker brand and, while arguably more “current” in its styling, is something which will probably change or be adjusted in several years’ time, rather than the 24 years that the previous logo lasted.

I would argue that the Chameleon branding would stand on its own two feet just as well with the 1997 blocks - we saw interpretations of that on billboards in the months prior to the rebrand with a large printed BBC logo (such as the Euro 2020 advertising) and I thought it looked great - but as you say, it’s a matter of personal taste more than anything.

Maybe 'Stream on iPLAYER' might've been a prototype slogan?

Seems likely. The trailers have said Watch on iPLAYER ever since the new logo launched.
