They had to add the extra balls as otherwise one player could take an unassailable lead quite early on, but then by adding the £50k for the final question gives it the opposite problem that it can make the six rounds before it redundant.

I know there were other editorial reasons for doing it, but there’s just nothing in the format that warrants it - no obvious change in the type of rounds, or the difficulty, or the time they have to guess. Or just a survival aspect justifying more money - you could have had three contestants up to that point for example with the one with the least amount of winnings going home, leaving the two survivors to go for the higher amounts. I’m not saying these are the fixes, just that they could have more cleverly integrated the addition of higher winnings in the format. As it stands it just happens because it needs to happen.

It’s only a small thing, but I just felt there were too many small issues like that which made it feel disjointed and - as per my previous message - under developed as a whole format.

Thinking about it on Sunday I think it might have worked better if they'd got the contestants to select a ball each at the start. This would have removed the need to repeat this process a few times, and add in having the pairs decide which ball to open, which if they'd got it wrong could be particularly interesting. Also having Vernon briefly talk to the 'talent' and thank them after their performance would have been nice, which was something my wife and I liked about I Can See Your Voice. I think the show will also be better if/when they're able to have a real audience, which could benefit the programme, compared to how the virtual audience was used on Saturday.

2.9m for ICSYV, 3.8m for GoT in the ratings last night. Not too good.

They may be popular elsewhere but I guess what it boils down to is what viewers are already familiar with. Spain, where GoT originated, has only had its version of ...Got Talent since 2016 (there was one series in '08 which didn't get recommissioned). It may be that people there are more welcoming to GoT whereas here we've been overexposed to this type of show.

Didn't watch either last night but ICSYV was up 400k and GoT down 1.2m on last week.

ITV will be disappointed with that figure even if BGT is to return, although if GoT drops further then they don't have a ready made replacement if BGT itself fails to perform.

So 3.3m v 2.6m, though the BBC had the advantage of the lead in yesterday.

It's not bad but not great either. Do feel Epic Gameshow and Game of Talents might be better the other way round, although I suspect Epic Gameshow has an older audience.

Given the FA Cup lead-in it’s not particularly surprising that it swung the other way. I Can a see Your Voice does seem to have been received more warmly (although I hear episode 2 of Game of Talents was better than episode 1?) so I can see it retaining the lead from here, although probably with a narrower margin than last night.

Suspect it’ll be a case of them both remaining just under/over the 3 million mark. Given BBC1’s much weaker Saturday night slate across the year that should comfortably be enough for a renewal for ICSYV, whereas it may well not be enough for Talents given ITV’s generally busier slate. It’s slot is already unavailable next year and at this early stage it doesn’t look strong enough for them to find it another slot to go into.

See your point about Epic Gameshow, I think in reality they’re both 7.30pm shows, neither really fits the later slot that well and I think it was the right thing to give the better slot to the newbie. But if Talents falls further I could see them reconsidering that choice.

Unless I’m mistaken, Game of Talents is the first ITV Saturday night show this year to directly up against a similar entertainment format on BBC One.

Whereas you had The Wheel starting once Masked Singer was done earlier in the year & in recent weeks The Wall hasn’t met the junction and usually started ahead of Takeaway.

I like both shows, the ratings were clearly effected by the live sport on One.. so I suppose we wait another week to see any proper movement. I do agree that Epic doesn’t really feel like a strong enough series for 8:30pm, but I expect the nostalgia value is what landed it there.

Could either Epic or Game of Talents be worthy of a shot on a Sunday? Either in lieu, accompanying at 8pm or the weeks after DOI?

I think Epic Gameshow was originally going to go Sunday 8pm, but was moved because BBC One were controlling Sunday nights at that point.
