Unused BBC2 idents from 1991 by the Brothers Quay

Noticed that TV Ark have uploaded some unused BBC2 idents from 1991 made by the stop-motion animators the Brothers Quay - apparently for use before art programmes. Seems a bit of a shame as they're quite quirky, although I don't think I see the famous "2" anywhere in the second one?

Shame that they were not aired. Why these idents are unused? I Suspect the 2 itself was too abstract at the time.

Beside the veridian feathers, I'd have to be told that this was BBC Two, even if there is a mangled '2' in there.

They seem to work better as stings for the appropriate genre of programme being advertised. Given that the whole point of the 1991 rebrand was to give both BBC1 and BBC2 a cohesive look, I'm not that surprised these were abandoned as idents.

Not surprised they were unused - they convey exactly the sort of image the rebrand was designed to move away from.

It's a bit Channel 4 'bird man' era, in that you have to work quite hard to see anything resembling a logo...
