I do hope they have a few more recent names amongst the remaining 8 - it's all been quite retro so far. The kids in the audience watching them argue over whether it's Pat Cash or John McEnroe must be somewhat confused.

It's a hard balancing act though, if it was filled with YouTube and TikTok influencers and the like, then it would likely leave anyone over the age of 25 confused as hell. Not least the panel.

It’s quite difficult because the cultural gap is growing with those that the under 20’s know the most much more likely to be totally unknown to many older viewers than in years gone by because they was more cross generational Tv programmes in those days.

While I agree and would like some more recent names in the next 8 I think the format of someone singing dressed up as Panda or Traffic Cone is probably enough to keep kids interested even if they don't know who's behind the mask when it's revealed.

A couple of issues, that started to grate with me last night. I'm still a huge fan of the show, I think it's a pitch perfect bonkers show, that actually makes you laugh out loud as some of the images of a 9 foot traffic cone belting out a song with gusto, but...

There is now a huge advantage in having a song with a soft and low vocal, rather than the massive 'stadium' shouting number.
There are hardly any audience reactions, and very little panel soundbite edit drop-ins' during the performance which gives you a better run up at trying to hear vocal clues in the clear. Something you can't do with a up tempo number and all sorts of near constant destraction noises from the studio.

Second. First series I complained of the law of diminishing returns in play. The longer the celebs went into the series, the more clues you had, so by the final, you were only watching to see if you were right, and there was no 'could be him or maybe him' in your mind. You knew who it was.
Last series, corrected that, and made the final a bit more of a guessing game right up to the reveal.

This series is showing signs of over-correction to that. Last night we seemed to have clues designed to throw the panel off the scent and towards someone else not even in the show. It could argued, that they do that themeselves anyway, but you don't need the writers on the production team, adding to it. Some of the clues so far have been so 'out there' they could have found a home on 3-2-1, 25 odd years ago so crypic were they.

Oh, and why is it relevant to say that the pre-performance vt's used stand in/stunt doubles? It seems a rather unnecssary piece of on air adminstration. Clearly when recording the inserts, they wouldn't stupid enough to remove the head on the costume in full glare of anyone looking on, even if there's a same height and build stand in taking the place of the celeb - so, I don't know why that is mentioned at all.

Like with the three minute terms and conditions for phone in votes and competitions it's all just an over-reaction to previous scandals. They know they'd get accused of fakery if they didn't mention about using "stunt doubles", hence why they mention it. On that line though have to wonder how much is performed live and how much is mimed.

Good point. Wouldn't the costumes muffle the singing? And the show is pre-recorded, so easy to hide any trickery.

If you look at the heads of the costumes, there's enough space not for the voice to be muffled.

They are using stage grade 'cheek' mics (as in use in musical productions in the West End and Broadway), so the microphone is sitting on the face of the singer.
You can hear, with some of the non singers, the breathing, so all songs are performed live.

Yes, hardly a household name but a credible signing from a band which for a moment at least were well known and respected.

Yup, this was always the case later on in the competition, the sing-offs are usually done early on in the series.

They only do them in week 3 & 4 actually as there are double eliminations the rest of the series.
