Grapevine rumblings that Paramount Network is to become 5Action in the new year.
The decision to close 5Spike and shift all its content to Paramount Network was an absolutely strange decision in the first place. Frankly bonkers!! The Paramount brand being associated with 'cops and cars' shows back to back surely was never going to work!??
I think Channel 5, with it's close connections to Network Ten in Australia (via its owner) should have gone for a 5Mate branded Channel (10Mate down under), as its a good catchy name .
Ten have a 10Shake Channel, which I believe is inspired from our 'Milkshake' brand.

You've had a bit of a mix up, I'm afraid. There's no 10Mate. The Mate you're referring is rather 7mate, owned by a competing network, and, although 10 has an equivalent channel, it is called 10 Bold (originally One HD, and later 10 Boss, before Fairfax/Nine complained).

Here's the new 5Action logo. Basically it's 5Spike version 2.
Also they could make 5Star into a UK counterpart of 10 Shake to compete with CBBC/CBeebies and BBC Three better.

You've had a bit of a mix up, I'm afraid. There's no 10Mate. The Mate you're referring is rather 7mate, owned by a competing network, and, although 10 has an equivalent channel, it is called 10 Bold (originally One HD, and later 10 Boss, before Fairfax/Nine complained).

I assume ViacomCBS want to use the Paramount name for Paramount Plus.
5Action isn't a bad name though and means they show a wider range of male skewing content.

More of a case of distancing the premium name of Paramount from all the low budget stuff currently on Paramount Network.
5Action will now be swimming in the pool of other low budget 'action' branded channels of CBS Action and Great! Movies Action.
Going back to the 5Spike name would have been a better choice, no other channels with Spike in there name.

The C5 multi-channel strategy baffles me and this seems to be an admission dropping 5Spike may have been a mistake. Guess it makes sense as well to drop the Paramount Network once Paramount+ launches.
Also don't quite get where 5Select fits in now - thought it was intended as kind of their equivalent to 4Seven but there is a bit of randomness on that channel too such as the Steptoe and Son film.
Why they don't capitalise on the movies they show across all the channels and launch 5Movies I don't understand, giving viewers a known destination for movies rather than them appearing in blocks across the channels.

There's no way on earth they could have Paramount Network (as it currently is) and Paramount+ both running side by side, one showing cheap male skued dross, the other asking for a monthly subscription for 'premium' content.
Better to drop Paramount Network name quickly and quietly, pretend it never existed then several months later use the Paramount name for the new subscription service.

Paramount Network also to close down in the Nordics, on the 1st of January.

But I agree, 5Spike closing down was such a stupid idea
The problem with bringing back the 5Spike name back is that currently it makes little sense, given that ViacomCBS has already closed most of the Spike channels in the world

Well they are one and the same now in regards to their UK operations. Even so it's not very often a defunct channel brand gets bought back, even if the channel effectively does return.

5Action makes the channel sound more exciting than it actually is. Seems depressing honestly, we've never had a proper male dominant channel since Bravo and the male dominant channels we do have seem to show more cop shows than actually putting effort in retaining the audience, only seeking those who are flicking through the channels.
Still, can't be as bad as a gaming channel rerunning episodes of Cops and Cheaters just to up their demo that much to even get advertisers interests.
