New C4 Christmas Ident 2021
#1
So C4 quietly debuted their 2021 Christmas Ident this afternoon, based on the Abominable Snow Baby which airs on Christmas Eve. Managed to catch it on C4+1.

Last years effort for Clown won "Best Ident" at the recent Promax awards, along with "Best Use of Animation".

Glad to see C4 back in the Christmas game in recent years, although I think the ones they do for the animations get somewhat forgotten.

Was there a longer version of this one for Tiger Who Came to Tea?

Before that there was We're Going on a Bear Hunt.

And criminally the only Christmas ident of the 2004-2015 set

Although there did do a version with Monty the Penguin to promote the John Lewis ad which shows what an opportunity was missed:

I really miss this era of C4 pres - so effective and I think the possibilities were endless, they could have rocked that look for a long time if there had been the desire to do so.

The new one is very nice and it is great to see the symbol appearing in full, and not the "block man" we are getting now. There are also no screaming kids playing football so it is instantly better for that reason alone. I'm even starting to get bored of hearing Four Score on an acoustic guitar for every programme. As Channel 4 drop new looks without any prior announcement, I can't wait for the day it is reported here that they have either added a shedload of new idents or launched a new package altogether. Compared to what we have had previously, the idents for this package are very limited and, in my opinion, weak. As Jonnie says above, the 4 blocks being made up from random things that synced up for a short period was a great idea and had a lot more potential and it is a shame they dropped the idea completely.

Agree. Although I like the way C4 slowly build up their use of the Christmas idents by only using them around Christmas programmes initially it was really jarring today going from the generally really nice graphics based Christmas idents to the robot man and the shouting kids.

Sadly I think the time has probably passed now for them to switch to solely based graphics ones all year round but it is certainly time for the robot to go to the scrapheap.

But what would they do with the blocks in the 2020s?
They made them multicoloured and spin around, put them in a circle, then in a square, made them inanimate objects and then broke up them completely.
Maybe go for a combo of 2D and 3D like the new TV Globo rebrand or completely flat altogether?
The current All4 branding shows us the blocks could look good in a simple flat rebrand.

What about a combination of both the 2007 look and the current look?

Think about it, have the current package’s blocks piled up with people interacting with ‘em in settings akin to the 2007 package
"HA HA HA! Cookies on dowels."

Maybe they could do what BBC Two did in 1991 and just go nuts with the blocks. They could be bugs scuttling around an infested house, or stretching around all over the place. The sky's the limit
Wonderfully weird.

Don't think they're showing this anymore which is a shame. Very good, same level as the Tiger one. Not available on All 4 either, which doesn't make sense.
They're both women and that trumps regionality; ITV guidelines

I'm sure I've seen it in the schedules closer to Christmas - either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day morning I think.

Not spotted "Clown" from last year though.
