Audiences for STV News at Six are at a nineteen year high and it more often than not these days thrashes Reporting Scotland so I can understand why they’d be reluctant to go for major change just to keep people on a forum happy.

If the whole of Channel 3 ends up under a single ownership at any point, I suspect that the Border region will be disbanded soon thereafter in favour e.g. a "Central Belt & South" region and a "Tyne Tees & Cumbria" region.
Hopefully, Ofcom would then eventually rationalise the licencing structure to match what would already be happening in practice - Just like they eventually did for Wales and the whole West Country (in 2014, in think?). Might as well abolish the National Breakfast licence whilst they're at it.
They could even have just 4 licences in total - One for each nation (with the "England" one including the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands, or the latter might be a separate 5th licence instead?). In this scenario, I'd suggest that the new England and Scotland licences still require the same number of news regions/sub-regions as currently required.
Getting rid of a licence that straddles the England/Scotland border might also make it easier to implement whatever broadcasting changes would happen in the wake of Scottish Independence (if that ever occurs).

Lookaround had a report from West Linton which isn't that far from Edinburgh, surely they get reception from Craigkelly in addition to Selkirk?
Do you think STV could just decide to sell to ITV any time soon and then just decide to be a production company? They seem to be making stuff for other broadcasters more now as that seems to earn more money then a actual TV channel.

Chances are they'd be in the same studio with either Glasgow or Edinburgh getting a pre-recorded half hour if the model of other regions are followed.
Although it is probably inevitable I think for now it quite suits ITV not to have a complete monopoly of the franchises, though that wouldn't be the issue is might have been a couple of decades ago, and STV probably still needs the channel to lift the profile of the production business considering how competitive the independent production market is.

Can't see them selling the broadcaster but keeping the production side. Though, STV's brand could end up surviving anyway, as ITV nowadays has independently branded labels (Potato, Multistory Media, Lifted) rather than just ITV Studios, and so keeping the STV name for their existing programmes for other channels would make sense (like how Granada was still used for a while after ITV Productions was created).
