Actor Robert Fyfe, best known for playing Howard in sitcom Last of the Summer Wine for 25 years, has died at the age of 90.

Fyfe joined the long-running BBC show in 1985 and remained until its final episode in 2010.

Sad news. He was the last of the older main cast - just Glenda and Barry, who were younger, and later additions such as Russ Abbot, left now.

Not quite the last- Brian Murphy's still with us.

Such a shame. Another sitcom legend within the space of a couple of days. Definitely one of the actors who bought that famous sense of elderly youth to the show.

RIP.

That’s a shame to read. I have many memories of his appearances on the programme over the years. As a kid it was never a programme that i chooses to watch, but one that the family did so I had no choice, however, I now look back on it fondly. Howard’s appearances always added a different angle to the episodes with a cheeky twist. RIP.

Summer Wine was a "marmite" comedy but even in its latter series it was still pulling in viewers. Now to do that consistently over 37 years is notable. You couldn't think of anyone else in the roles due to the longevity and Robert Fyfe will always be Howard Sibshaw.

RIP.

He is still around as is Josephine Tewson, but they were later additions towards the end. Robert was the last of the old guard.

Robert Fyfe had appeared first as Howard in 1985. I suppose the only other two who are still with us, as old guard from 1986, are Sarah Thomas, and Mike Grady, who played Glenda and Barry Wilkinson.
