Can't be often, if ever, that someone has hosted Newsnight and the 1pm News in the same day.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Emily did back in the day when she was a network bulletin presenter. John Tusa is another possibility.

Although surprisingly I can’t think of many Newsnight presenters who have also presented network bulletins.

Emily did indeed. So too, if I remember righty, did Kirsty (albeit from presenting an edition of Breakfast News through to Newsnight).

It’s often a good chance - in the summer - to screen test presenters in different settings. Not necessarily an indicator of where they’re heading but useful to see where works (and crucially, where doesn’t).

As for Victoria, she’s an real asset. They obviously tried (pre lockdown) with the 9 (am) idea but I really wouldn’t be surprised to see her in a much more prominent role shortly.

Not sure about John Tusa. Didn't he present Newsnight in its early days? He was a One O'Clock News presenter in 1993/1994-ish and I'm pretty certain he didn't appear on Newsnight at that time. No idea if he did main network bulletins in the 1980s though.

I recall Jon Sopel in a typical mid-2000s summer doing Breakfast and then Newsnight on the same day too.

I don’t see why a more permanent move couldn’t be made. The majority of guests even when in London appear to be coming DTL anyway and the programme looks much better from Scotland and Wales. It would feel much more of a commitment to producing content outside of the capital than this tokenistic occasional decamping.

Alternatively perhaps there could be more regularity to it - Thursdays from Wales with a new Welsh presenter, Fridays from Scotland with Kirsty for example - utilising more academics and experts from those nations. It would give it a bit more structure than these random ad-hoc movements.

PS - never Salford. It looks awful.

I don't understand the problem people have with it being in 54D. It's a nice studio and serves the purpose of the programme.

Actually, I think it looks better in there than in Studio B.

No need for 'sofa surfing' around the country using a canteen or a converted space in the atrium. Nice for a one-off relating to a special event, but not on a regular basis just "because we can".

Agree that would be a good move. Probably not practical for the programme's agenda but with bib could be in Wales on Tuesday and in Scotland on Thursday to coincide with First Minister's Question in each nation (I think NI's equivalent is every other Monday). I doubt the show would want to focus outside of the main national and international stories as early in the week as Tuesday but in an ideal world if your idea became reality that could be an idea on when to base the programme outside of London.

Bethan Rhys Roberts could do the Wales broadcast (hard as nails in Wales broadcasting) and Kirsty up in Scotland leaving Emily with her 3 days in London. Wonderful idea. And yes - Salford - BIN!

I can't stomach it either, really unkempt.
It was only yesterday I took a look at BBC Persian and the sofa without that cover is immaculate, actually looks better than the Breakfast soft. How much are these sofas? Maybe we should start a gofundme page and get it replaced once and for all.

Persian TV is in its clock change period as of Wednesday, which means they come off air at 2135, so maybe NN use a different studio for rehearsals.
