Or at the very least call it 4Music+. A shame the red button channels seem to have gone from 4Music too.

Hmm... like how Sky Movies in the early 90s was called Sky Movies Plus, because they also had WWF wrestling?

I am actually struggling to think of a new name to replace 4Music.
I would say that just simply changing the name 4Music without having a credible plan in place to give it any valuable meaning as to what the new name of the channel stands for, whilst keeping it completely separate to E4, might be a bad move from the Channel 4 management's pov if they don't want to give even more confusion to their viewers.
Anyone out there who is working within the higher up's of Channel 4 must be thinking that the name of this channel feels very lost out there in what relevant content it can actually provide to it's core audience. If you're providing very little any actual music programmes on it to your audience for several years now; what is the actual point of keeping the 4Music name on there in the first place?
I mean sure 4Music does have rights to the Grammy Awards every year. But does that make place to not have that ceremony backed up with other music programmes in order to boost the channel's profile on the EPG. If you're looking at all of the TV options in the UK at the moment. The only places where you can see the majority of any actual music programmes to watch on TV in the UK during most of the year are on BBC Two, BBC Four & Sky Arts. And 4Music gets left out of the loop while the BBC & Sky dominate that market.
It just feels very misguided for Channel 4's perspective to keep it on the EPG while not providing your brief to it's audience in a clear & consise way. I do agree with anyone that has made the valid point that Channel 4 will eventually have to merge E4 & 4Music together while keeping the E4 name on the channel in order to keep it relevant for it's audience. It's just a question of will it happen soon rather than later.
But I know it's on Channel 4 word of when it will happen if they have the bottle within them to actually do it.

It's whether a new sub-brand for C4 or making it a second E4 channel would be best - I'd lean towards the second which I think boosts the E4 brand too.
I suspect they don't want to lose the 4Music brand - rebranding The Box channels could be an option (and presumably the licence to use the Bauer brands won't run forever). Whether they rebranded or not though the worry would be that history would repeat itself and within a few years they're in the same situation with The Box, though at least that brand still works.
@Brekkietweets
I disagree completely that making it "E4 2" even branding-wise would be a good idea.
"Extra/2/+" channels are so uncreative as names, really.
Nobody would take an E4 2 channel seriously.. Again, I think something like "4M" (uttered "form") would be a good word play, and would hint at a somehow musical channel, but not exactly

I think 4Music should keep the name and move to E4 with new content and in-vision continuity in the afternoons (like T4) instead of endless repeats of American sitcoms.

"
Hits 4" perhaps? That way it could cover music hits, as well as 'hits' from Channel 4's archive of programming. It would also bring the channel naming convention in line with most of their other channels and catch-up service.

If they rebranded though I don't think they'd worry about keeping the morning music slot. That only seems to remain as a token nod to it supposedly being a music channel.

The trouble with having so many channels it means none have a clear identity. Turn on E4, 4Seven or 4Music (and even More4 I suppose) and you would be hard-pressed to tell the difference.
