CIN moving is another blow for the BBC Elstree Centre, I assume that all the comms and OS's needed for the show will be linked up to Salford, like what happens with elections now they come from NBH.
I assume both CIN and Comic Relief will move to into Studio HQ1

The move will be in effect from 2022 for Comic Relief/Red Nose Day, not this year.

Yeah, that tweet should've said from now on, not from 2021. This year's Sports Relief already happened, in March.

It was Comic Relief this year. Sport Relief has been in Salford since 2018.
One thing it will hit is any West End shows featuring after their performances in the later hours, assuming the later hours return.
@Brekkietweets
It looks like Sport Relief is done and Red Nose Day is becoming an annual thing. The website says the next RND is 18 March 2022.

Was there a view that using the Olympic Park wasn't really a success, then? Or is this just a "get everything out of London" thing?
Also, what shows is TC1 actually being used for right now?

Also, what shows is TC1 actually being used for right now? Children In Need has been broadcasting from Studio D at the BBC Elstree Centre since the BBC moved out of Television Centre in 2013 (using the same communications hub used for election programmes), whereas Red Nose Day used the London Palladium in 2015, Building Six at the O2 in 2017 and Studio D at BBC Elstree in 2019 and this year.
The Copper Box at the Olympic Park was used for Sport Relief in 2014 and 2016 before it moved to Salford in 2018
These days Studio TC1 is used by programmes used as Saturday Night Takeaway, The Graham Norton Show, The Last Leg and The Russell Howard Hour

I'm anticipating that as with many other COVID changes that have become permanent (no more audiences at Countdown etc) they probably won't be going back to doing a fully live 7 hour show going forward. Makes sense to focus all you have into a shorter show, primetime, and of course, have all the support of things like The One Show across the BBC to drive/promote the appeal in the buildup to the live telethon.

I don't think either show uses much in the way of outside sources any more. They're big shiny floor shows that happen to be raising money, the days of crossing over to various places are long gone.
Even if they were Salford is much better connected than Elstree or any of the locations that Comic Relief has used

I think if they do appear, it's usually as pre-records nowadays from my recollection.
Quote:Children in Need and Comic Relief, the BBC's annual charity fundraising TV specials, will be broadcast from the corporation's Salford studios from 2021 onwards.
The move, announced on Friday, is part of the BBC's commitment to the nations and regions outside of London.

Yeah looks like Sport Relief is now RIP and Comic Relief is now annual like Children In Need starting next year

If this is true, It predicts will follow NBC's annual red nose day, which has been in place since the inception in 2015.
