I'm surprised nobody seems to be picking this event up considering the UK involvement. Bound to get News Coverage though unless everything on Sunday is to be drowned in Wembley related items.

I'm not sure the public interest is there. Billionaires sending themselves into space for fun in a global pandemic....just a bit tone deaf.

I'm sure it will be on the news. You wouldn't expect something like that to be picked up as a programme in itself.

Really for UK interest they picked a really bad day for it

This story seems to be continually misreported by the media. They are not "going into space", they are embarking on vanity sub-orbital flights.

Even ITV, BBC, Sky and GBN have incorrectly reported them as "going into orbit". They are not even getting close. :o

Branson was on Sky News the other day speaking to Sarah Hewson, who was at the original project launch back in 2006(?), it was quite interesting actually.

Indeed. Still not quite as bad as 20 years ago Moira Stuart saying, 'hope everyone on board has a safe trip' after the launch of a probe to Mars.

Knowing Sir Beardie Branson, and his desperate attempts at self publicity, by 4pm tomorrow it'll be revealed the flight was really done a simulator near Ipswich..

.. Again. Big Grin

Ah I know what that's a reference to! That was done as a wind up for Virgin's first flight in 1984, two cricket players and Branson played pilots appearing to be smoking some herb on the job.

not to mention that it's not exactly a great technical feat - even the Branson outfit has been sending people to the edge for some time, just without the man himself on board. Sending a person into *actual* space is as routine as it will realistically get, this is why NASA found that appeal quickly dropped off (to keep my post semi relevant - as did TV coverage) after the moon landings.

Big Grin Actually James, I was referring to Channel 4 & Endemols 'Space Cadets' which was a week long hoax, done in Ipswich.

However, happy to acknowledge your brilliant skills in coming up with another direct connection to Sir Dickie Beard with my original posting.

Sky News are covering it. BBC News ignoring it and showing The Media Show

Here in the States, where the launch is taking place, I'm sure the cable networks were at least following it, but ABC & CBS, around their usual Sunday morning political shows, shoehorned special coverage.

The French news channels gave extensive coverage to the flight.
