Title sequences which don’t exist anymore possibly because of flow of channel and idents

I'm not sure this really counts but I recall The Voice having a way longer theme in our countries but the UK only having the last verse and different graphics.

May I mention programmes that have done the reverse recently and that is the opening News Bulletins. Their headlines/coming up section seems to go on forever sometimes, it's so annoying. Bring back something like the bongs, that was sufficient to get you watching.

I actually miss the full end of Coronation Street. Watching the episodes from 1970s/1980s you forget just how much they were part of the programme and when they played out the middle section with it (Rovers Fire 1986, 30th Anniversary 1990) it added to the history of the programme. Thank goodness for Britbox- the evolution is as much part of the shows history.

Now its so quick its borderline pointless.

I think some programmes suit a short snappy opening, and even a lack of title sequence. Fleabag comes to mind, just having the title card works fine for me, but at the same time, shows such as Game of Thrones wouldn't feel the same without one.

The mention of X Factor and BGT cutting down their opening credits for me is an interesting one. I haven't watched either for several years, but the last time I saw clips, it appeared the name had disappeared from the title shot as well, solely relying on the logo. Is that because they believe they are so well known they think everyone will know what programme it is?

Does Neighbours count in this category? They ditched their opening credits from mid 1990 - 1992. I believe Andy Peters or one of the announcers introduced the new look in 1992 as "And now a new way to meet your Neighbours"

Don’t understood this recent thing of ITV’s big entertainment shows cutting their intros right down. It’s obviously a conscious decision but it feels wrong. It’s like they’ve forgotten how to build up to a show.

It could be just to save money, e.g. instead of having to film a new Takeaway intro when the show moved to the Television Centre, they just did a 5 second computer animated one, saving time and money. But then they record a really good trailer for the series which could easily be used as an intro if edited properly.

For BGT it’s probably the same situation, they always made an intro for The X Factor, but they seldom used it, for The Band miniseries the full version intro wasn’t shown once.

At the risk of sounding like a middle-aged old git bemoaning "the youth of today" (which I am)...

The gradual diminishing of people's average attention spans since the advent of social media, YouTube, etc has inevitably influenced all media including television.

The prevelance of short "sting" title sequences or mere title cards, instead of the longer title sequences of the past, will surely only ever increase henceforth.

As, sadly, will the increasingly protracted opening sequences that often precede the blink-and-you-miss-it "titles", which essentially give you 3 minutes (or whatever) of "edited highlights" from the ensuing programme, thus negating the need to bother watching the full thing because you've basically already seen it in condensed form.

Mind you, you don't have to be a Millennial to be bemused by the duration of the Good Morning with Anne & Nick title sequence...

Dancing on Ice especially suffers for it IMO. The X Factor shortened their titles but they continued to have a bit more than just a title bumper, and although BGT seemingly scrapped theirs they still have the fanfare intro every episode, which is far wealer than the original theme and titles IMO.

Takeaway is the worst cut IMO - it just doesn't work and as a 90 minute show they can surely spare more than a few seconds for an intro, which as you say builds up well to the show.

This just prompted me to fall into a black hole of watching Good Morning with Anne and Nick title sequences and I’d forgotten how much both the current This Morning and Morning Live sequences owe to them. Uncanny.

Yes, they ooze 1990s cheese. But you cannot deny the catchiness of that theme tune.

I assume that was the lunchtime broadcast and the episode of Eldorado being trailed was an encore of the previous evening?

I wonder what Andi Peters or whoever did say at 5.35 that evening?
