This is sad news, but I think we've all seen it coming for a while.
I suspect that Points West, Radio Bristol and the R4 Bristol contingent won't be far behind BBC Studios' teams in leaving Broadcasting House and moving to the new place, if they can all fit in.
and a fresh new set for points west to coincide with the move. and a Bristol backdrop would be nice
The difficulty caused by calling office based production departments “Studios” versus the actual studios operations! So the bits that are office based are moving to new offices and the studios (Points West, Radio Bristol, Radio network production) are staying where they are for now.
A big problem with the Whiteladies Road site is essentially a lot of it is Victorian and Edwardian houses knocked together. (The newer part of the building excepted.) For some years it has been very full, and even half of the canteen was lopped off to provide extra office accommodation. The canteen has now closed altogether. Victorian houses don’t make accessibility terribly easy and the bits where a lot of the NHU are housed are far from modern. Moving the NHU may allow the BBC to sell some parts of the site and retain the rest but the writing is probably on the wall. It’s an enormous chunk of expensive real estate in a very sought after area of the city so money will probably talk!
I hope that if Points West does get moved, then they get a studio more like Central Square in Cardiff but scaled down obviously, rather than a Salford or Leeds-esque studio
The site at Whiteladies Rd. is worth quite a lot of money. BBC management policy of late is to flog anything that isn't fastened down and rent a shiny new office block usually near water so they can call it ' BBC quays'. Bung in a bodged studio in an inappropriate space and call it progress.
EDIT
Bridgewater House - nearly a quay & handy for the Travelodge

MISLEADING HEADLINE "MAKES YOU READ ARTICLE", SAYS NAKED MILEY CYRUS.
It’s a massive site in the most expensive part of one of the most expensive cities outside London.
It makes sense to move somewhere cheaper and better meets the requirements. Whether the latter happens, remains to be seen.
