Well we are getting bbc world news but with the newsroom background which makes studio c claustrophobic and dark, if it was meant to provide a service for people wanting the news rather then Olympic breakfast they should have at least opted for the normal London background, which at least would have looked vaguely like breakfasts backdrop.

I dont believe world use the London backdrop anymore.
Most of their viewers are global therefore I dont see why they should make any special allowances just because its breakfast time in the UK

They certainly do use it, it’s when the silly news channel wants to simulcast then studio c gets a newsroom backdrop which dosent work.

It must be baked into the template if = news channel and world news = must show newsroom background.

Surely the reason the opening ceremony figures were low because it was in the early afternoon, when most people aren't in? Coupled with the warm weather.

I'm sure if it had been a rainy evening things would have been different.

World uses the daytime London background for all of its daytime Studio C output. As mentioned, the newsroom background is only used for simulcasts.

Never really been a fan of virtual sets but given how good the Olympics one from Salford looks, I think a virtual Breakfast set would be infinitely better than the current toilet.

The current version of the Salford Quays / Trafford Wharf faux backdrop is infinitely better than the previous deserted meeting room/terrace/balcony/whatever (I doubt that even the graphic designer knew what it was supposed to be!), and lifted the look of the programme as much as is possible within the constraints of the rest of that bloody set. 'Twas but a ?-polishing exercise, mind.

It’s VR at its absolute best.

Also, agreed on everything you about the current Breakfast set up.

I do actually think Breakfast will suffer as a result of this. It’s not a normal summer, people haven’t gone away ‘en masse’ and will wonder where to go for their morning dose of background noise, clock watching while getting ready for work. We’ll have to see what the News Channel serves up on Monday. If it’s BBC World with no regional news, I fear ratings will fall.

Thanks fellow forum member, I am very aware of the capabilities of the various channels, networks and what is doable regarding the regions, nations.

I'd rather wait and see what happens on Monday than rely on someone with no 'apparent' inside knowledge. Naga's inserts this morning were certainly not crammed into ad breaks and I'm referring to a Saturday.

Apologises, I was referring to the NC programming, which will just be the normal World News simulcast with some more UK stories when WN goes to an ad break.

Personally, I hope Olympic Breakfast has more news inserts on Monday, but after taking one look at the Olympic schedule for Monday morning, it looks busy

I'm as guilty of this as anyone but people spend all year complaining shows are boring, repetitive, on air too often and just going through the motions - then as soon as there is a change people moan that folk won't like it.

Olympic Breakfast has been a fixture of the BBC for almost as long as breakfast programming has been running. It may lose some viewers but it'll gain others.

That said I do think an alternative news programme of some sort, even if just half an hour at 7am, on BBC2 or BBC News, would have been wise. Ultimately though BBC chiefs want their breakfast audience watching the Olympics, not the news.
