BBC (Miscellaneous): 2021 Rebrand

I've just seen the new animations for iPlayer & Sounds from two promos on BBC Two England HD. They look absolutely brilliant.

Now that the symbols are starting to appear on TV, I do think that this rebrand is broadly a success - compared to the mishmash of channel brands a year ago, it looks slick.

But the inconsistency of promos is still bugging me.

The programme name is left-aligned, unless it’s the programme’s logo when it’s centred.

Sometimes the time of the programme is above the channel name, sometimes it animates to replace the channel name.

The BBC Sport menu looks a right mess - the most crucial information - time and channel, is the smallest.

They seem a little unsure how to deal with iPlayer or Sounds only promos. A Ukraincast Sounds slide appeared after the news tonight with no sign of the symbol.

Forgot to mention that BBC Three seems to have a random black end board unlike all the other channels.

The alignment of the title to the left doesn't really bug me as much. The time and date thing may be intentional, due to it being a short promo when the time is above the channel name, and I think we might need to give the symbols some more time to fully flourish.

That's to make it stand out, to push the fact it's back on TV and not just on iPlayer. You noticed it, that's what they want.

Seems like Wimbledon will be the first to adopt BBC Sport's Project Chameleon branding according to Clean Feed.

I know, and I don't know why that's included still. Also, just to answer your question, yes, some icons are new, but others are staying the same

New BBC blocks logo appears in Broadcasting House newsroom, which i suspected the first new blocks has been appeared on NBH.

Just noticed that on programme websites on the BBC website (not iPlayer) still have old channel fonts on them. It clearly does not match with the 2022 BBC logo in Reith.



The BBC logo on both the header and the BBC Scotland logo is also quite repetitive.

They’re being phased out now so not sure there’s much point changing them.

Yeah, look at Doctor Who's page. Not only is the old One still there, the header image is over a year out of date, and still features Graham and Ryan with the Doctor and Yaz, instead of their replacement Dan. And the Latest News subpage has only had two updates since April 2020.

It’s a bit odd that they changed the promo styles to all finish on those “Watch on IPLAYER”, “Listen on SOUNDS” full screen endboards, only to change it a few months later with the icons now taking centre stage
