Given time, consistent usage, and it appearing broadly across media - that link will be established. The BBC Blocks help in the icon itself, as well as the assigned colour for each service.

Well that’s most apps then! The icon is just there to help you find the app - for most the text underneath is needed too.
Photos for example. Not a clue what it symbolises. Without the word Photos underneath I’d never find it.

Yeah. But that's a normal app thing. Additional info is at the bottom of the icon. That why the BBC News app will have words at the bottom of the icon. Not necessarily the inside of it.

It's very common for apps not to have their names on their icons. Twitter and Facebook are such examples (just a bird and an F respectively), and just try looking up some games some time - they'll tend to feature characters, not logos. That is EXACTLY what I was saying.
New BBC America logo appeared for the first time in Doctor Who: Legend of the Sea Devils. It had been similarities to 2021 logo but in Reith font instead Gill Sans. Not sure whether new logo appears on-air.

https://twitter.com/DoctorWho_BBCA/statu...4124703745 Well that design was unexpected. I thought it would've been the same design as the BBC ONE, TWO, THREE and FOUR logos.

The BBC's international channels very much do their own thing so this isn't a surprise

It will be interesting to see if these BBC icons become as recognisable. iPlayer and Sounds I can see - the others I’m not so sure. This is where holding them back on TV makes no sense. The association isn't there yet with BBC News and BBC Sport especially.

Not sure about the meaning of new BBC News icon, giving the random three blocks and coloured red.
I think for the corporate and on-air, they would most likely use BBC blocks logo with service name underneath, as we seen on BBC iPlayer, Sounds, Sport, and News promos in order to prevent confusion about symbols of three blocks icon on each 6 services.

There was a podium being considered but I assume it was too close to the Sounds icon with the vertical lines so it was swapped out for a running track. I think it looks good and I'm already starting to identify it with Sport now it's on the app, just need it to be used more.
For on screen I'll run through how the promos work for say a Sport programme:
Begins with a full screen Sport icon over picture which animates in and out. The promo then plays. BBC blocks then appear top along with programme details and SPORT at the bottom with yellow background (as now), the background fades to black and the BBC blocks then fall into the centre of screen and create the icon with Follow on SPORT at the bottom of the screen, and then this icon transforms into the iPlayer icon with Watch on iPLAYER. End of promo.
That's how it's supposed to work and is what should be being played out now.
A bit unrelated, but the News icon was confirmed to represent webpages.
Wonderfully weird.
Good to have the clarification, but I wonder why they made one of the News blocks a rectangle?

Ok. Happy to admit I was wrong.
Seems I wasn't far off then!
