BBC (Miscellaneous): 2021 Rebrand
The new BBC News icon has at last appeared in the latest android update.
Formerly 'Charlie Wells' of TVForum.
Bbc weather still out of date though no icon or new logo.
Oh the new BBC Radio logos are just, euggghhhhh...

Especially Radio 4 and Radio 3 are just without any character whatsoever, very bland.

EDIT: I'm also adding Asian Network to that list, eugggghh... it's just an A.

Have asked about that and was told (2 days ago)…

It's not like you're gonna see them much, they're radio logos.
Wonderfully weird.
I’ll be glad when the Weather app gets the update. It’s doing my OCD no help.
Still not convinced they work as icons. Probably need the "NEWS", "SPORT" etc. text more than the BBC logo, though obvious why the BBC logo needs to be prominent too.

App icons have labels, just like shortcuts on Windows do. It doesn't need to have BBC News on it at all as the name appears in text underneath.
Although if you have to read the label underneath to see what it is that surely suggests the icon is failing in it's function?

Well I think it’s cool and quite obvious tbh they need to roll out these app icons straight away.
Who needs to read the text beneath an app icon to know what it is? ?
The new BBC Sport app icon from BBC Studios Ltd has appeared on the Google Play Store in The Republic of Ireland. However I have not received the update on my Android phone yet.

The BBC News app icon from the same app developer is still unchanged for now.

It's very common for apps not to have their names on their icons. Twitter and Facebook are such examples (just a bird and an F respectively), and just try looking up some games some time - they'll tend to feature characters, not logos.

Well that’s most apps then! The icon is just there to help you find the app - for most the text underneath is needed too.

Photos for example. Not a clue what it symbolises. Without the word Photos underneath I’d never find it.

It will be interesting to see if these BBC icons become as recognisable. iPlayer and Sounds I can see - the others I’m not so sure.
