Nick Grimshaw to leave Radio 1 after 14 years

See they've gone back to just three daytime shows from this week too with Adele Roberts hosting 10.30-2 then Nick (and from next week Scott) hosting 2-5.45.

With the departures and holidays, I think they are a little short on DJs at the moment, so the extended shows are helping to cover the period between now and when the new shows launch. The schedule will be back to normal from the launch.

All of those with new shows, Clara, Jordan, Rickie, Melvin and Charlie, are off next week and with Nick and Annie already gone, there aren't many of the usual suspects left.

Clara was a strange one in how they've dealt with her leaving the morning slot. Adele has been standing in for weeks but on random days Clara would co-host, then I think Clara returned for a week to host her final shows.

Clara had been off for weeks because she’s filming a new BBC Three series. I believe she still was on once a week or so. Then when she returned, ended up being pinged (hence the co-hosting) and then like you say, her final week. I guess it’s not such a big deal as she’s just moving to a different time slot.

I think it probably is a production team reasoning for the reduced schedule. Scott’s production team will move with him to cover the 2pm slot for the rest of August, freeing up the new Drive producers to work with Vick & Jordan on some dry runs. Probably similar for RMC, but less important as they’re used to working together.

It’s off season for Radio 1’s target audience, so it doesn’t really make a huge difference!

Oh, it's a sensible move though I suspect they'd have a stronger summer audience than usual with less people travelling abroad. Has RAJAR started recording ratings again yet - that suspension never made sense considering how the ratings are collected, though I suspect nowadays the BBC rely more on their own figures from BBC Sounds (and Global from Global Player) anyway.
