GB News

I do think having Nigel on air will help the channel. Indeed when I saw his little video of the behind the scenes at GB News, I was quite taken aback by him. Like everyone else, I have formed an opinion on Nigel, especially his politics - however he does have a superb professional broadcasting style.

The short video showed Nigel very calmly showing the viewer around, and you got the feeling of very little ego - compared to the likes of Dan Wootton.

Maybe I am being conned into liking Nigel, but I will say this - I like his presenting style - I dislike his politics.

When will the EPG listing for Nigel's new show be updated on the main platforms? I have both Virgin Media and Freesat, and both of their EPG are keeping the usual 2 hour Dewbs and Co from 6.00pm tomorrow.

Objectively Farage is a very compelling broadcaster. And there was even a weird night following the Manchester Arena attack where he was essentially doing almost an hour of ‘news’ on LBC. He was very good and I say that as someone who doesn’t like his views.

Will there be any actual content though, post- emergency relaunch?

Farage on LBC could easily fill his ~40 mins of programme (accounting for ads/news/travel) with an opening monologue and a switchboard full of sycophants and haters in equal measure.

Here he won't have the calls and I am not sure I have seen any evidence that GBN has any kind of production machine that would in any way support the Carlson/Maddow/et al shows that they think they are making.

Unless they invest in planning, writing and research it doesn't matter how big a name occupies a slot, they're still just going to be banging on about footballers kneeling and Prince Harry every day - the same tired 'content' that nobody is staying around to watch.

Spot on. They can put Nige on 24/7 if they want but without the content to back it up they'll be back to square one in no time at all.

They can have all the relaunches/rejigs/switcharounds they want but it strikes me if you're going to watch the channel you will and if you're not you won't. Im not sure there's really an appetite for this out there

Supposedly Tom Harwood is set to replace Simon McCoy on the afternoon programme:

I think this is just someone reading some fantasy rota talk on some forums and deciding that it is actual news and posting it on his Twitter.

It did seem a bit suspect to me. Though the Simon McCoy thing was first 'reported' in the i newspaper, and has been echoed by Guido Fawkes:

Having said that nothing seems to have been officially announced yet, so who knows.

Given they all pop up on each others shows as 'pundits' I doubt anyone will notice the difference!

No Sunday Night Live this week, it was replaced with a repeat of Free Speech Nation.

If Simon McCoy is indeed moving to The Great British Breakfast, when does he start? Now, or September?

Of course it's too much to expect this latest schedule change (or any schedule change) should be updated on their own website.

Wonder if they're going to keep repurposing the channel everytime it nearly falls apart until the money runs out. It's always been a curious channel even before it launched and remains so, if not for all the worst reasons to be considered as such. I just feel a bit sorry for those who got sold a bum deal on what GBN would be and ended up as, I'm not sure whose expectations it's living up to.

So if they're giving Tom Harwood a regular shift are they abandoning any pretence he is their "political editor", or as other presenters fill out the guest slots will he still be expected to appear on other shows in that role. You have to give it to quite a few of the staff that whilst their boss if off on an extended holiday they're quite often putting in lengthy split shifts.

I guess Guto Harri's is effectively the first show to be axed then but nobody knew he was doing it anyway. I always had Dewbs and Co. down as the first to go from daytime, mainly as at two hours it was quite easy to remove and fill the hours by rejigging the schedule a bit. Now it's been cut to an hour it is surely even more vulnerable.

The addition of hourly news bulletins should help things, although will it be news or just the stories that make up what GB News has decided is the agenda for the day. And as others have said whatever your views on Farage he is a competent broadcaster, and also a fairly authentic broadcaster too unlike those that take the shock jock style to get attention.

He is political correspondent. Darren McCaffrey is political editor and presenter of Breakfast so guess Harwood could do both roles too.
