BBC to "cut number of programmes it makes" according to Davie

I still can't understand why they brought BBC 3 back, I accept they don't have a crystal ball but clearly, even looking at the schedules from over the last few years it's been pretty clear there hasn't been enough quality content to go around, with even BBC One looking seriously stretched during daytimei.



Merging 2,3,4 into a single channel with any overspill just going on iPlayer - is such an obvious solution to the problem. Archive stuff can go on iPlayer anyway.



I think recycling content on CBBC and CBeebies is less of a problem because the audiences for those channels typically only sticks around for a few years, they've only got the cost of the doing the links then.

Dead air though in the evening, or childrens shows airing past childrens bedtimes though, offers less value for money than BBC3/BBC4 running thin on content.   Now there is an argument returning BBC3 pretty much in it's former form wasn't the best idea - I personally think some kind of "boxset" channel running full series each night from 9pm, with a mixture of new and archive content, might have been a more effective solution.

The Eurovision semi finals can, and should, be on BBC Two anyway. I know the British don't have any skin in the game but it would be cheaper than what's slated to air.

It's simply bizarre that they get a world class television production at a knock down price then ghettoise it.
