I'm not going to compare GB News or Fox to RT today. Regardless we will have to agree to disagree.

In other news, Youtube has stopped all ads on RT today YouTube and other main Russian channels.

Ofcom regulates EPGs, including the Sky and Freeview ones, and insists on "fair and effective competition". It is unlikely that the regulated EPGs would be able to drop a properly licenced channel for political reasons.

Looks like EU is banning the channel?

I heard the head of the EU say this but nothing online yet.

Quote:"Second, we will ban the Kremlin’s media machine in the EU. The state-owned Russia Today and Sputnik, and their subsidiaries, will no longer be able to spread their lies to justify Putin’s war. We are developing tools to ban their toxic and harmful disinformation in Europe."

RT is basically dead. No income from Google services etc, no broadcasting in the EU and possibly UK.

They might as well close down, why waste such efforts and energy. Close the doors and go home.

Their primary funding won't be through Google ads. Being censored can be just as useful in a propaganda war as being free to broadcast propaganda.

Yes I’d expect it’s mostly from the Russian gov funding wise.

Perhaps Google can just ban the channels. With twitter etc following. This will vastly cut down the amount of people that see it after the broadcast cease.

Hopefully the UK will follow the EU in its decision to remove many Russian operations, I hope.

I've never been a fan of it being on Freeview, and broadcasting freely in general.

Why Fox News has been removed and this not? Well, I suppose I can answer my own question: because we wanted to appease to a very "sensible" Russian government (with the current consequences we're seeing now), while Fox News is just a random US operations, a dangerous operation, but nevertheless a channel like many others

Fox wasn't removed (by the state, at least). It stopped broadcasting for commercial reasons. There's two versions of what those commercial reasons were, but take your pick a) removed by News Corp because it didn't make them money or b) removed by News Corp because it embarrassed them at a time when they were trying to buy up the rest of Sky.

If you're looking for international channels that were actually removed, you're looking at Iran's PRESS-TV and China's CGTN/CCTV9

We really need to stop comparing RT with fox and gb news. It is dangerous and “crying wolf”.

Whilst I somewhat agree regarding GB News I think given what unfolded just over a year ago in the US the comparison with FOX News is probably fair. It's a different situation, but running false narratives is a common theme.

Iran's Press TV is probably the more relevant comparison though considering they lost their licence a decade or so ago.

RT & Fox News, are like Press TV and CGTN in the sense that their primary product is propaganda, and Fox News is currently very pro-Putin so they are putting themselves in the same boat as RT.

GB News by contrast is trying to be all things to all people at different times. It's not a propaganda outlet, but it does have some very questionable content.

Neither Fox News or GB News have been banned by Ofcom. We assume RT will be due to significant breach of code. Until such a time Fox or GBN is banned they cannot be compared at all. Fox of course was removed from Sky because hardly anyone watched it. It has nothing to do with breech of code, as stated above. Nor have I seen any evidence they are pro- Putin. They certainly are not from what I have seen on YouTube.

Tucker Carlson up until a couple of days ago was pro-Putin, putting the blame on anyone and everyone except the Russian President, but has toned down his rhetoric since the invasion started.

If that’s the case I am sure he looks very foolish now and will perhaps go. As long as we are talking about questionable support for Putin.

I see a lot of people say someone is pro Putin because they are saying he is taking actions that are outdoing the west and therefore he is more in control etc, and this highlights why the west needs to up its game. So this would be praise of Putin of sorts, but only to highlight failings by the west and need to improve. This is not pro Putin.

Pro Putin to me for example, is supporting him fully, ie “I agree with the invasion of Ukraine”, “I agree with every action he takes” etc. I have never seen that on Fox News. I have seen a lot of examples stated in the second paragraph above. Praise to highlight self failure.
