I tried to resist to wait for them to air on TV, but I did not have the will power!
They look beautifully crafted and feel very Christmassy. I look forward to seeing the surrounding presentation too.
Whilst I love what they’ve created, I partially see Moz’s point, as they could get tired by Christmas Day and will feel strange introducing a drama. I suppose that’s where BBC Two’s are stronger because of the variation in their Christmas themed idents.
The news safe version could be used for dramas and anything serious?
Could this year's News Safe be conceptually very similar to last year's?

BBC Two presumably yes (with the 2021 rebadging), ITV probably, Channel 4 almost definitely. Surprisingly Channel 5 has been pretty consistent in introducing a new set of Christmas idents every year, but they could always just fall back on last year's set.
BBC One seems like the one channel that always has a new set of Christmas idents without fail (or at least adds to the package every year) and I find that commendable, even if some years have a less-than-stellar output. The other channels tend to be more complacent, for lack of a better term, in repeating past years' presentation. Might be a budget thing, and maybe BBC One is just lucky to have a bit of cash saved for new decor.

Except in 2003 and 2004.

ITV have had new idents every month so I doubt December will be any different.
BBC2 and BBC4 will almost certainly be rebadged versions but maybe if we've been good this year they'll sneak one or two new ones in.
Back to BBC1 and I guess the news safe ident will just be the tree outside the house, perhaps with day and night variants.

Channel 5 are already using last year's pres to promote their daily Christmas movies. Not expecting anything different for this year's idents etc.
ITV has been the same Creates idents for the past two years. Maybe something new this year?

I really do love this years Christmas idents! The Shaun the Sheep aspect just fills me with nostalgia and really evokes a fun Christmassy feeling. I will be interested to see what the news safe idents are like as the landscapes in these three idents are particularly beautiful.

They did have new idents in 2004.

It was only 2003 that repeated the Snowflake kids from 2002.

These are wonderful, but the placement of the BBC blocks is a real shame because they do completely ruin the perfection of the tree as the central motif. They just about get away with it in the two idents where the tree isn’t fully decorated since it isn’t masking anything, but it’s a glaring issue when it completely masks the star on top of the tree in the final ident.
A shame they couldn’t come up with a compromise on the placement of the logo for this set, though I guess that would mean breaking the new branding rules mere weeks after they were introduced!
Not as if that hasn't happened multiple times already...!

I think it would be fine to have an alternative version where appropriate where the BBC logo just animates on and off on the top of the screen then reappears with the channel name in the stacked formation at the bottom.

What is really noticeable in these idents is the sheer attention to detail- far more intricate and complex than the previous Wallace and Gromit idents of 1995 and 2008.
They are well executed, they look visually appealing, they raise a smile.
Yes, the placement of the BBC logo does leave something to be desired, but that isn't Aardman's fault.
If Shaun the Sheep isn't your thing, that's fair enough. But, as ident fans, I think we can all recognise the expert craftsmanship that have gone into these idents.

Yes - I see that the scenes show: the tree going up; the tree being decorated; then the lights switched on. I did wonder if they might be rolled out one a week progressively as Christmas nears?
Would be a nice touch, but very likely I'm overthinking it and expect they'll end up mixed up.
I'm fully expecting the third ident (when the tree lights get switched on) to be the first one they use on Saturday.
