I agree with all of the comments about Corrie being dull at the moment. For me it has been boring since the 60th anniversary week which in itself wasn't that great. However, I have just watched Wednesdays episodes and they weren't too bad by recent standards mainly thanks to the excellent acting by Jane Danson. The rest was much the same as usual - completely bored of Peter and Carla going around in circles rinse and repeat, Tyrone suddenly being in love with Alina seems to have come to from nowhere, no chemistry at all - its almost like they have to break up every single couple at some stage. I dislike Todd and Billy back together (thankfully Billy wasn't in Wednesdays episode, tiresome character). There is a lot I'm disliking at the moment. The Leanne Simon drugs story is the best of the current bunch of story's and even that is something that makes me feel like I'm watching Hollyoaks. Harvey is not anywhere near as scary as his equal in Hollyoaks! I just cant take him seriously. And as for Ned, they might as well have just sent Kirk!
I think Corrie's problems come down to 3 things. Firstly there is simply too many episodes. The current 6 episodes a week is nothing short of ridiculous. I also don't like the format of what is essentially 3 hour long episodes a week. In Emmerdale they cope with 6 a week much better as its shown daily for half an hour with an extra half hour on Thursdays. But 6 is still too much. The second reason is down to poor writing - some of it can be blamed on the pandemic but some of it is storylines going around in circles, too many affairs, murders, serial killers, general nastiness, someone is almost always in prison, someone is often in hospital. They certainly making use of the sets for those places. If you look at Corrie in the 2010s it was a poor decade overall, easily the worst of the 6 decades the show has been on air IMO. Now we are into the 7th decade and so far its looking even worst than the last one. Thirdly, Corrie is really missing its older cast - Rita and Audrey have hardly been in it since they returned after the first lockdown. This cant be helped as obviously the actors health and wellbeing must come first - but Corrie has always been at its best when its featured its old school characters. Even newer characters like Evelyn are missed, she would have had some amazing scenes with Alina, Tyrone and Fiz i think instead we just had a discussion between Fiz and Chesney about a conversation on the phone.
The first i heard that Corrie was screening 'new' episodes at 6am on Monday and Tues was when i saw a post on the classic corrie Facebook page on Monday. My series link did record the 6am episodes on both Monday and Tuesday when they normally just record the afternoon showings. It did seem rather strange as before they have always just not shown Classic Corrie over the Easter bank holidays and the repeat of the last showing goes out at 6am on the Tuesday afterward. I guess ITV3 couldn't be bothered to find a replacement show for the 6am slots. Worth noting that there was no advert break in the 2nd episode (on I think Tuesday), possibly as they only show trailers at that time anyway most of the time so perhaps they just thought it was pointless putting an ad break in when the episode wasn't airing in the afternoon. There was also an edit at the end of one episode this week, cant recall which day, Des must have called Samantha something rather unkind in the Rovers! The episode ended abruptly and Sam and Natalie looked shocked when Des had basically said nothing! Its interesting that they feel the need to edit out thing that might offend from repeats of old shows or imported shows yet at the time I'm sure some ITV regions showed afternoon repeats of Corrie in the exact same slots and I bet nothing was edited then. I loved this era of Corrie (late 1990s) at the time and it showed that Corrie could move with the times and still be good.
On the subject of being middle aged I totally agree with the comments here, I was as horrified as Kirk lol. Being in the same age group as Tyrone and Kirk (late 30s) I certainly don't feel middle aged!
