I'd say the BBC has always been quite good with title sequences, it's generally been other areas where BBC News' presentation has been weaker. I think the only 'tier one' titles that really seem below par in my view are the first incarnations of the clamshell - which seem a bit poorly rendered for the time - but they aren't that bad, and the later versions of the clamshell were very well done, if quickly axed.
I know they aren't everybody's favourites, but I've always quite liked the current white and red titles, though, at this point, it may simply be Stockholm syndrome.
