The Logo Finding/Discussion Thread

There is one particular TV production company logo that I remember but can't think of the company same. It was a spinning/rotating shooting star accompanied by a whooshing type sound and then when the star stopped to reveal the company name there was a 'ding' sound. I think it was a more 60/70's style logo than anything from the 80's on sooner, but I could be wrong. Any ideas?

Sounds like Hanna-Barbera to me.

They had a couple of variations of that Star logo IIRC, then they stopped using it, and then went through a phase in the years before Hanna died that had all sort of things for an endcap. They didn't seem to know what they wanted. It was revived in I think the 1980s, I suspect it's been retro-plastered at some point with the better known variation from the previous decade.

I note their recent logo is a modern version of the one the company were using before the rotating star (of course the original company folded in 2001 when Hanna died and was absorbed into Warner Bros). But they didn't have any consistency at all for a very long time.

That's it, that would have annoyed the life out of me. I had Google searched it but I got either templates for star logos to buy or pics of Vic & Bob!

Here in Ireland the Swirling Star can be seen on RTE Jr. airings of the Scooby Doo and Scrappy Doo show but idk where else it appears.

Been checking a few TV shows that aired today on channels like the GREAT!/CBS channels as they mainly air older shows and here's what I found:

Today's King of Queens on Channel 4 had Hanley Productions/CBS Productions/Columbia TriStar Television/CBS Broadcast International
Today's Crazy Like a Fox on GREAT! TV had the smoking fox logo, followed by CTTD and SPT.
Today's Sue Thomas on GREAT! TV had Pebblehut, Paxson and the Sony Pictures Television International logo
Today's Starsky and Hutch and GREAT! TV had a very high pitched Sony Pictures Television logo (Bars of Boredom)
Today's TJ Hooker had the Bars of Boredom
Today's Walker Texas Ranger on CBS Justice had Norris Brothers,CPT 1993, CBS Productions and CBS Broadcast International
Today's JAG on CBS Drama had Belisaurus, NBC Productions (with theme) and Paramount Television
Today's The Fugitive on CBS Justice had QM Productions, United Artists Television (in-credit) and CBS Television Distribution (B&W)
Today's Perry Mason on CBS Justice had CBS Television Network (one in-credit and one the zooming eye logo) and the B&W CBSTD logo.
And, today's Golden Girls on TG4 had Touchtone Television and the 1998 Buena Vista Blue Castle.

These shows have been airing on these channels for months, if not years (except Golden Girls), and honestly knowing that there's hardly ever nothing new to see that's interesting anymore just kind of upsets me. I understand streaming is obviously more popular nowadays and a lot of companies are focusing less on their TV channels, but even streaming services aren't that good logo wise (at least not yet). I have found Worldvisions on Charmed and Moesha on Prime however. Not really sure if people really talk about streaming services on this site though.

Amazon Studios' "ident" (its not an ident as such, more of an extended sting) is actually quite good:

There's a few other stings floating around too

And of course Netflix is simple but effective:

The Netflix logo is pretty nice. I kinda like the Amazon logo too.

Have a Matlock recorded on CBS Justice for 3:50am in the morning. Hopefully a V of Steel or Wigga Wigga, depending on what episode they're airing.

One logo I'd love to see is the videotaped Viacom V of Doom. I watch this YouTuber who lives in the USA and since he recently reached 2K subs he uploaded the pilot episode of a show he was planning to do back in like 2017 called "Search for Logos" where he looked at what logos he could find on the American channel MeTV - and he actually found some interesting stuff. During the episode, he freaks out when he finds the warp speed Viacom videotaped V of Doom (that alliteration tho) on an episode of The Bob Newhart Show, as it was like his first time seeing the logo on TV. That inspired me to try find the videotaped V of Doom on TV, however Perry Mason seems to be 100% remastered prints, and I think that's really the only show airing nowadays that could have the V of Doom, so we've already ran into a dead lead seemingly. I wish CBS Justice would pick up Cannon, as that show's been known to keep the V on current prints, but ViacomCBS already seem to want to ditch CBS Justice in favour of Paramount+... Hopefully Ireland get it soon at least.

Saw the filmed one on the Gunsmoke episode "Like Old Times" when CBS Drama last aired it (they no longer air Gunsmoke sadly) however. The filmed logo I also remember seeing on Amazon Prime's prints of Terror in the Wax Museum and A Cosmic Christmas. Prime IE no longer have Wax Museum and I don't think they ever had Cosmic Christmas but Prime UK may still have Cosmic Christmas as they only added it in August 2020.

Of course Netflix have the long “cinema” version too, which I really like:

The Matlock episode that aired at 3:50am in the morning (S6 E11) had the Viacom Wigga Wigga. Print looked remastered so was worried it would have the "Studio of Staleness" aka the CBS Television Distribution logo.

Also, TCM aired Escape to Victory today and the elusive Lorimar Motion Pictures logo was kept. Saw this finding years ago though, and it had the WB 2003 logo at the end. As I said, nothing really new to see nowadays.

I've requested CBS Justice to try get the rights to Cannon so we may see a videotaped V of Doom finally! I've also requested CBS Drama to try get the rights to My Three Sons. When S11/S12 air we should see Viacom Pinballs (and a filmed V of Doom on the season 11 finale "After the Honeymoon") as the MeTV/Odyssey prints also use Pinballs. Surprised CBS hasn't released these seasons of the show to DVD or streaming yet however.

Not quite Amazon Studios, but they updated the Amazon/Prime Original ident last year, and it has nice Studio Canal feel to it. Although oddly it’s not used on all content as the previous Prime Original ident is still used.

Yeah, that logo does remind me a bit of the 2011 StudioCanal logo (aka the logo that you see on nearly every film on Talking Pictures TV)

I think its a case of original programming got whatever the current ident was at the time (they've been making stuff since 2013/14) and they haven't retro-edited those to stick the new idents on. Yet.

I don’t watch a great deal on Amazon, but the most recent episodes of The Grand Tour, A Massive Hunt and Lochdown had the 2017, despite being released after 2020, ident from 0:07:

Whereas oddly stuff from last year such as All or Nothing - Tottenham and Borat have the 2020 ident attached to them. But you are right the 2013 ident still lingers on some older content.

There are some variation of that logo with Time Warner and AOL Time Warner bylines.

As someone who has also recorded Matlock for logo purposes, I can say that most episodes will have the Wigga-Wigga (several variations thereof), and only a few will have the V of Steel left intact.
